Looking for a basic lens for my Canon EOS Rebel t2i

I have a convention in about a week, but my lens on my camera broke. It's a fairly new Canon EOS Rebel t2i and it's just the lens it came with. Does anyone happen to still have theirs that they don't use anymore and is willing to sell it to me quickly for a reasonable price? It would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

You could check the marketplace forum on Photography-on-the.net:

Failing that, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens - colloquially called the "nifty fifty" - is one of the best budget lenses you can get, and is great for portraiture. Around a hundred bucks, sometimes as low as $90 when it's on sale or with rebates.

[edit] oops, looks like the price went up a smidge, still it's a great deal and is currently on sale:

My favorite place to shop for used lenses is www.keh.com you can find the kit lenses there for around 60 bucks.

It's unlikely you'll find anyone here with a spare kit lens lying around. Good luck ;P

This. I have a T2i and I use the bejeezus out of my 50mm f/1.8. Was extremely cheap compared to some of the other Canon lenses, its fast, and takes great clean shots even in reasonably low light. Most of my studio work is done indoors in cramped quarters and this lens shines in that dept, however, ive done many shoots outdoors with the 50 and it works great there too. As said, its a fantastic portrait lens and youd be hard pressed to compete with its price.

If you find that some of the Canon lenses are too pricey, take a look at some of the Tamron lenses. They have some really decent, affordable lenses, especially in the telephoto department.

The 50mm is awesome-- I do a lot of film with it on the T4i, but I've tested it on a T2i as well, and it's one of the best investments I've ever made. Still photos come out lovely too-- wonderfully sharp subjects with blurred backgrounds, and gorgeous bokeh at night!

The 50mm 1.8 doesn't get really sharp until about f2.8 and is too long to be used at a crowded convention with a aps-c sized sensor. If you're only interested in head and shoulder shots then it's pretty good, just don't drop it or it'll break. That's how cheaply it's made.
