x-23/wolveine claw help

so I've never really made anything like this before, but I plan on cosplaying x-23 and i'm not really sure what material I should be making her claws out of
I've already drafted the pattern, they need to be con-safe and won't get me in trouble going through weapon check

Cons have different ideas of what is "safe," so be sure to check the rule of your specific con.

In general, con-safe would mean something out of plastic, wood, foam, or cardboard/paper. Depending on your skill level, this could decide what material you use. However, the basic idea is the same:

1. Create claws
2. Attach them to wires that will fit between your fingers
3. Attach the other ends of the wires to a handle that is hidden in your closed fist

This tutorial on youtube uses plexiglass, aka plastic, but the same idea could be used for other materials:

If you're okay with wearing gloves here's another method that might be better http://www.instructables.com/id/Wolv...aws-equipment/ http://daphnelcc.wordpress.com/2010/...ne-x-23-claws/

i'm looking to do them more like the indy mogul tutorial, not retractable. I have nowhere to hide them
I suppose I should rephrase. what material is easy to work with and inexpensive?

I would highly suggest Balsa :3 easy to work with, easy to sand, also it is light weight and accepts paint fairly well. To get the metallic effect and shine? add a top coat of thick lacquer. Most Craft stores and Jo-Ann fabrics tend to have it ( Jo-ann's has it in a thin variety but nothing layering wouldn't fix)

XD hey no worries :3! but yes, balsa wood is a perfect lightweight craft wood, the issue is, on its own its ...well fragile, so you have to treat it with care before you seal it with lacquer. The epic thing about it is its so easy to sand XD! I had a commission for a set of razor blades that i thought would take forever to sand through, got it done in an evening with time to spare thanks to this stuff.

Hope this helps ! :3!
