Asuna Yuki Crossplay WIP

Hey guys, after crossplaying Erza Scarlet at Sakura con 2013, I wanted to attempt another one for next year. I still need to get the shoes and the sword for this cosplay, but I got some pics of the costume so far. (No makeup pics).

EDIT: Fixed the images so I got em directly from my phone, better pics now!

I still need to figure out something with the belt, which is too long, I'll probably have to knot it up in the back of the costume. Let me know any feedback you guys have.

UPDATE 7/4/2013-> Three new pics of my cosplay with the sword and boots now!

Looks nice so far. I don't see any problems with it. A huge thumbs up to you!
So just because you said no makeup pics, do you plan on wearing makeup? I'd like to see what the full costume looks like. Personally, I think you're a better cosplayer than me excluding the fact I haven't even started yet!

Thanks very much for the compliment! I usually use bb cream and some other concealers when I cosplay, but I am not adept at applying "passable" makeup. At conventions I see all levels of makeup, and some people don't even shave or conceal at all, which I at least attempt to do when I crossplay.

I'm using artificial foam breasts with this crossplay. Do you guys think the overall figure looks alright? I may invest in some tummy slimming products as well...

I think the figure is actually pretty damn good. For make up I'd say just keep practicing any chance you get and watch/read tutorials for it. Honestly, I'm horrible with make up D: I actually had to practice on myself multiple times before it was close to decent. (Eyelash curlers are scary things >_>)

I like this a lot though, the cosplay is very nicely done!

Is there something you can do to make the chest fabric stiffer? The point details on top and bottom (little silver bits) get a bit hidden by the bunching. (I had to work on this same issue with my Saber, ended up attaching a strapless white bra to keep that area always in place) And I would also suggest a very very thorough ironing. Wrinkles make any cosplay look sloppy. But looks pretty good so far, good luck!

Good point about the ironing. That'd help nicely. The Velcro tab on the back of the chest piece doesn't go very tight, so it tends to slack a little and bunch up. Perhaps a safety pin or two in the back will help there. Thanks a bunch for the suggestions!

Since you're wearing a mostly upper body covering cosplay I would suggest a feminine body shaper and hip pads if you aren't wearing them. Vedette makes really nice ones that if you wear the pads beneath the shaper it will give you a much more feminine shape. I use the combo for my Celty crossplay and really gives good lift in the back and tucks in the stomach a bit while accentuating the hips.

Makeup wise I would say foundation for sure. For eyebrows cover them with some glue, powder and foundation and then paint on some that are the same color as the wig; or paint your own eyebrows that color. Maybe some bronzer a touch beneath the cheekbones to make them pop a bit more. And then some lip gloss to finish. It's a lot of work, but really does make a difference and you do have a year to practice =)

Thanks very much for the advice there. Luckily I will be going to Kumoricon with some other crossplayers so I may be able to get some good direct help on the makeup front.

makeup would definitely make a difference. there are tons of tutorials on youtube. for the character you want a natural "fresh" look, keep that in mind when looking up tuts. plus she's a ginger so keep that in mind when choosing colours. luckily i think your skintone will work well for that

figure-wise, and in terms of the costume and wig, from behind totally can't tell that it's cross at all. a shaper wouldn't hurt but you can probably get by without. i think the makeup is the only/last hurdle

Thanks for the good evaluation. I just ordered Asuna's rapier, so in a couple of weeks I should have an updated costume pic with the boots and sword!

The only thing that bothers me, and it's such a small thing, Is that maybe the braids that tie in the back should be a little bit bigger than the ones that you have now.

Yeah the braids could be bigger, and in the reference pics of Asuna her braids typically are a few inches in circumference it seems, but this was the wig that was economical and it will have to suffice. The picture was a little zoomed out there so it looks smaller than they are I will admit though.
