Fabric Help

Hello there!

So I'm brand new to cosplaying and textile work generally, and have decided to jump in the deep end somewhat. I'm planning on making a long heavy coat (think Hellboy, or Mad-Eye Moody in their respective films, or the Tenth Doctor), and I've been casting around various materials to use. It needs to be tough, very waterproof (I live in Wales, so that's a big concern!), and preferably possible to apply designs or colours to. Weight isn't an issue. I'd also like to keep it fairly natural, definitely trying to avoid anything glossy or obviously manufactured- nothing that looks like it's from the Matrix costume department!

Any suggestions appreciated!
