Character without a foot?

Hey everybody! So I'm looking into cosplaying Hiccup from HTTYD 2. I'm not going to get started on it until a few more references of him come out. But until then I have his older costume already made.

But I've run into sort of a speed bump with this! He doesn't have a left foot and I do. Now yeah. I don't really wanna just lop my foot off for the sake of cosplay! So I was wondering if you guys had any ideas on how this could work.

Thanks!

It's definitely a peg. I just don't want it to look like im bending my knee you know? As realistic as possible.

How obvious is it? You could just not do it if it's not going to be too visible - like with long pants. There are ways to do it that involve strapping your leg up behind you and wearing a peg, but it's not comfortable and you can get hurt.

I need to look up pictures/watch it myself but someone I know recommended doing it similar to they did it in the live shows. It's what they're planning on doing and while it's not 100% accurate it's probably as close as people are going to get.

It's not really a peg either, it's more a wooden stick with a metal hook attachment, sorta. 'Cause it also clips into Toothless' stirrups. Only the hook really shows through his pants though.

Liveshow version images

They basically made a metal "boot". So this would be shaped closely to your leg/foot and then the good leg would be bulked up to simulate the larger feet that the movie style has (unless you were going with a realistic look). That's what my friend and I talked about anyway.

Also, for those that don't know the new design look here's a reference.

I agree that "bulking up" your good leg will make the other/missing leg seem much smaller by comparison.

For photo shoots, you might experiment with something more elaborate, and/or a bit of Photoshop trickery. For instance, you might make a one-legged "stool" that's knee-height, and for photos you'll keep your good leg on the ground and put your knee on top of the peg-leg stool. A half-decent photographer/digital artist should be able to remove the rest of your bad leg in Photoshop.

But for walking around a con, I certainly wouldn't try binding or hiding your real foot. Dangerous and uncomfortable.
