I guess I should add on. I'm just now needing a wig for a certain cosplay, and now that I'm looking into the prices... DANG. Wigs are super expensive for such a small piece of the costume.... I don't feel ashamed for getting it, but I sure do wish they were cheaper!

Almost everyone had hobbies - if they're destructive or preventing you from more important things you need to fix that or get help. But if it's just a hobby that's hurting no, who cares?
Well said. As long as your hobby doesn't interfere with other obligations and aspects a healthy life you have nothing to feel bad about.

Yeap. Currently have five cosplays I have yet to start working on, ten dollars to my name, and am currently unemployed. Good news is, I had an interview Friday; they said to expect to hear back in a week and a half to two weeks, and I'm pretty sure I got the job. Don't mean to sound conceited (that's a lie), but I did amazing.
Upcoming events:
Fanime 2015
Friday: Battle Bunny Riven (League of Legends)
Saturday: Satsuki Kiryuin (Kill La Kill)
Sunday: Lady Two (Drakengard 3)
Monday: Kraehe (Swan Lake variation) (Princess Tutu)

Queen bitch.
You can call me Meg.
I like RoosterTeeth, indie music and poetry, and American Spirit menthols.

if I spent more money on cosplay, then I did on my cat (who was more then I'd like to admit) I'd be ashamed. But no, I often don't spend much on materials. Although I do feel ashamed when I spend money a costume and only wear it once. XD

I don't really have any other hobbies like cosplay, so no. As long as the priority payments are taken care of, I'm not really concerned.

Last time I bought the fabrics for my cosplay I said "Damn! That was expensive!" (cause it wasn't a cheap material), but they were the color I was looking for, and that made me pretty satisfied.

I do a bit, but then I combat that guilt with the knowledge that it is bringing me happiness, and my happiness is priceless.

I'm not really ashamed, because I wear my cosplays daily, even if I'm just lounging around. So it's not like they go to waste? ;w; I'll admit that I spend too much on them though.

If I add up the cost of all my cosplays over the years, material, etcetc, I'd probably be a little worried.

But, I pay my rent, I keep my car running, put some money away into funds every month, and have a full time job.

As others have said, it's not the cheapest hobby, but aside from cosplaying, I play WoW, I draw and publish comics, my disposable income is just that, for my hobbies.

My money obligations go like this...

1)Bills/everyday life expenses 2) My horse 3) Cosplay

I am no stranger to expensive things. Horse hay costs A LOT of money, horses in general cost a lot but this isn't a matter about my horse. As long as you know how to balance everything out it will go just fine. Yeah some times I might go a little over board with buying fabric or accessories or parts of this or that. I run my own little business So money must go into that as well. So no.. Cosplay is a creative outlet for me. I balance things out so I don't feel guilt into how much I put into it
Costumes in the works..
Lady Blaze ~ DC Comics ~ 45%
Fem Shep ~ Mass Effect ~ 95%

More of my works..

Well, since I'm a minor who doesn't make any kind of income whatsoever, my parents buy me the things I need for cosplay. I'm not really ashamed though because the materials I need are usually cheaper things like felt.
I no longer cosplay.

This. I would feel ashamed if I was living outside my means, but I'm not. I've never had to put off paying bills or buying groceries or accumulated debt on account of my hobbies, so why feel ashamed?

My hobbies are all expensive, I collect manga, figures, I collect all the kpop stuff and I cosplay.

I have never once felt bad about how much I spend on my hobbies. At the beginning of each month I make a month budget that includes all the necessary things to live (bills, food, transportation, loan payments, etc etc) I manage my money so that I can spend a lot on my hobbies and survive without difficulties.

No but I wouldn't want to add up how much I spend a year on it. I'm not at all ashamed of cosplay so I don't see any reason to be ashamed of how much I spend on it.
