Question Scythe help?

Hello everyone! So I'm stuck on making my scythe. I've read several tutorials but I really don't know what to do next. I already have most of it done... So after spraying my outline with expanding foam and carving it to the shape I want it, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to colour it and make the designs on the scythe. The expanding foam didn't really come out perfectly flat, as in there are holes from air and such so just adding gesso and painting it doesn't really work. What should I do next?

Cover it with paper mache, the kind made from strips of paper and a water/glue mixture. That will help you get a smoother surface to work with. From there you can use paperclay if the scythe has any raised details.

Well for expanding foam I've done one build where I used duct tape and apoxie sculpt (clay) to get rid of those air bubbles. Don't worry, those bubbles are pretty normal and are a constant paint in the ass.

Here is my build log for that staff:

Additionally I made a scythe from RWBY as part of a commission if you wanted to get some ideas from it for a future build GL! Happy Cosplay!

Actually came here to suggest Stabbity's Crescent Rose scythe tutorial but it looks like she's got that covered!

As for the expanding foam, cover it in a layer, maybe two, of paper mache, then a layer of paper clay, and then sand it down to the right surface texture if there are any unsightly bumps. You can then paint over the paper clay!

If I put paper mache, will that make the scythe heavy?

Jason is correct, paper mache is very light. My blades for Rikku were made with the cardboard, expanding foam, paper mache, paper clay, paint method and they were acceptably lightweight and very sturdy. I highly recommend that method.
