I finished my Magnus cosplay!

Well...one outfit anyway. I'm still working on the buckle shirt from the first book and the crushed glass cape from the second, and my dream is to do his crazy leather pants/lacy shirt/military jacket outfit from City of Ashes for whenever the second movie comes out.

I'm working on Jonathan Strange right now, pre-mourning, and I think I'm going to make a mock-copperplate print lining for my jacket using illustrations from the book just as a little touch. The more I can do to tell people who I am...

So - it took two conventions and 3 signings to finally get up the courage to ask him. But, dressed as Queen Mab, I asked Jim Butcher what material the Warden cloaks are made of.

His initial response was "They probably use something practical, like wool." He then paused, looked like he'd realized something and said, "Oh, no, probably something horribly impractical, like a some sort of horribly obscure fairy fabric so blood doesn't stain it."

I'm now picturing the Wardens having to hunt down and shear Faerie Sheep in order to get cloak material. So I'm going to go with "wool" as the answer on that one

(And eventually I really need to upload some of the photos I have of me as Mab, since the costume is done, and revised, at least once.)

Despite waiting for what felt like an hour at the cutting counter yesterday, I finally have everything to get Dr. Abbey ready for Dragon*Con. I think the paint for the t-shirts is the only thing I might have paid full price for. I love coupons and sales!

Can you scotch guard a wool coat to keep blood off it?

I've always wanted to cosplay Sabriel or Lirael! I might do it one day. The only thing is that I don't know if anyone would know who I'd be cosplaying. Oh well. Another fun one would be Beka Cooper!

Funny you should mention Beka Cooper, I was thinking of starting an Alanna of Trebond lioness rampant costume and was wondering if anyone had cosplayed the Tortal universe yet. Google doesn't bring up much.

If it would make you feel any better, Terciel (it's been forever please tell me I didn't make a stupid typo) is on my list and I'd definitely know who you are. I've been sitting on a sleeveless surcoat for almost two years now.

The only costume I've done that's almost cosplay worthy is a Harry Dresden costume. But that was just buying a coat that was close to what was described in the early books (the canvas one, not the leather one) and assembling other parts. Real world based costumes seem to be like that though and even if it's distinctive, not many people seem to notice them.

Another costume I am considering making/ putting together is a Rithmatist costume, since that has a distinctive coat.

A few other ideas I am considering, is a Mistborn (Mistcloak), or even Wax's Mistcloak from Alloy of Law (though again, this is almost modern in appearance so with the exception of the mist tassels it might not be recognisable), A Shardbearer or Radiant (Shardplate) from The Stormlight Archive, or even the symbol head Spren.

If you're in a group, you could get a guy to be Tavi (Gaius Octavian), which is basically a Roman soldier (not very recognisable by itself), and a girl to be either Kitai or Alera (much more so). From Codex Alera.

Pretty much any character from The Wheel of Time as their costumes are many and varied as well as described in detail for each character.

I threw together a Kiowa costume (The Things They Carried) for English class on halloween.
I also put together Jack from Lord of the Flies, for a separate literary event ^^.

Kiowa was pretty simple, though a bit costly... Army fatigues, moccasins, illustrated new testament to carry around. Jack was hella fun! I got to smear tribal paint on my face and walk around with a fake bloody pig head on a stick ;D!
