I'm planning a Merida costume for Halloween/Akicon. I thought I should put all my freckles to good use, not to mention she is super cute!

I'm hoping to make this mostly historically accurate. You can take a look at my research here and here.

I just bought the most perfect wool blend today! I can't wait for it to get here so I can get started on the dress!

I'm hoping either coscom or arda will have a sale soon so I can start on that beast of a wig!

It's pretty! I'm really looking forward to meeting my fellow Meridas at Katsu!

Super cute! (:

I got one of my wigs today. I plan on wefting two wigs together and adding some extra wefts of other more natural colors too! (:

So I'm doing this all backward. I have my wigs and accessories all taken care of and now that I'm on the dress I cannot figure out what pattern to start with any recommendations?

Simplicity came out with a Merida pattern in this year's Halloween offerings. And Butterick has a kirtle pattern that requires very little alteration.

Simplicity only maks the pattern in girl's size not women's.McCall has an adult one but I am really not a fan of how it looks. I'm leaning toward the butterick one at this point but wanted to see if there were any other ideas out there.

I wore my Merida costume to a con a few weekends ago! It was so much fun! I just ordered some wool for her cape and hope to start her bow soon. Here it is so far though (:

I'm planning Merida for London Film and Comic Con this year. Me and some mates are doing a whole Disney Princess thing.

Still tracking down the right pattern, and I'm scouting out the material at a local fabric shop when I go Christmas shopping on Monday.

Where else can you purchase a nice fabric for Merida's dress?

I used teal velveteen i got from the Fabricland chain in Canada. But try online for linen, velveteen (cotton velvet), or other woven fabrics. Her dress dose have texture.

A few people mentioned wanting to make Elinor's dress. What fabric did you go with? I have no problem with the pattern, that is right up my alley, but that fabric.
