Monster coat from Orre

So I've been kicking around the idea of doing Wes some point in the distant future, which brought me to that coat.

As a 12 year old that was possibly the coolest coat in the world
as a 19 year old it probably still is
As someone who has to somehow sew it, I'm frightened.

So what I was thinking: I wear a black turtleneck underneath (the color there) and then the black on the coat is actually just a panel stitched underneath lots of blue.

I can tell the thing is basically a for lack of a better name double tail coat- it splits into 4 panels; to on the sides and 2 in the back, and I have no idea how to go about that or what good pattern would be good to mutilate. And while I've drafted patterns before these have been for capes, shirts, a vest and well frankly much simpler things.

Does anyone have any suggestions what pattern would be good for using as a base?

also to people unfamiliar to the game: ignore the black/red shoulder plate thing, that'll be made out of foam xD

I think it's Simplicity that has a Matrix style coat pattern, that would probably be the best jumping off point, both in length and flare shape as well as close fitting through the torso. In order to have the separated panels all you have to do is not sew the seams. But to look really good, you should line the coat (at least the lower portion if not all). Lining this part of a coat is easy! It's just big rectangles, like making a pillow case Working out the details across the chest will take a bit of playing around, I'd probably cut one side out of black then just apply blue shapes on top to get the look.
