World Cosplay Summit

I've been following WCS for little over a year now and I've been looking for other people to talk to it about.

Stuff I hope to do by the end of the year:
Prism - Original design: Done except for the bow
Akihito Kanbara (Idol) - Kyoukai no Kanata: Need to add details
Drag Cloud - Final Fantasy 7: Need dress, wig and braids
Bahamat - Fantasy 4: I need wig, and to make the wings
The Best Costume Ever - It's a surprise: All I need is the wig!

It is an awesome thing! I'm part of Karmaluna cosplay, a US finalist team from last year. We are competing again at katsucon this coming year to compete for Team USA 2014.

For more information on qualifier check out the Official Facebook page.

For 2014 Rules please see: Rules!

It is a huge time commitment and a huge financial commitment, but I think it is worth it. The participants tend to be a bit older and everyone is really focused on creating artful cosplay and performances. It's very different than your run of the mill masquerade.

Although it doesn't seem like my kind of source material, I'll never get the chance to go, since they don't consider Canada to be worth their time...

It looks like a lot of countries are excluded, actually. Canada's only one of them. But yeah, not a "World" summit when only a handful of countries can try.

I wouldn't necessarily say they "don't consider Canada worth their time." The events are very expensive for conventions to host, and many are unwilling to take on the cost (since the hosting con pays for not only the winning team's trip to Japan but also their country's organizer).

2014 is going to have 25 countries attending.

WCS is about promoting world friendship, so I'd suggest keeping OP's thread positive.

If you're interested, keep an eye on the pages and best of luck to anyone competing!

@Lunalady: I remember you guys! I loved your performance.
Thanks for the good luck, I plan on competing this year.

They've been adding more and more countries every year so I won't be surprised if Canada will be next.

Lunaladyoflight: i have a question. I just started entering AX masquerade and was wondering if we could use the same skit to compete?

Here is the official FB page and a link to this year's rules! I am a participant and not staff so I cannot give official answers on anything.

Thank you for sharing the link! I do understand as a contestant, we create one performance at a time and not worrying about the grey areas that the staff handles.

I did look through it already and it did say none from any event. I was hoping they meant regional only, not national or global.

I believe everything has to be fresh, to keep things fair. Certainly costumes, and I'm sure performance goes with the territory.
