KOTSProps, so you're one of those, huh? :P It's funny how short the attention span of the internet is. People were raging about AFKers last week and now everyone's forgotten it since the major maintenance. *eyeroll*

Anyway, for the Cleric's attire... When I did the normal FFXI WHM AF, I just used a turtleneck sweater as a base, and sewed everything on over that. It's actually really easy to do, and a super simple cosplay if you already have the 'form' made for you. Then you can sew the other pieces over it and tada, AF made. As far as the hat... meh, leave it out. :P I always did.

I'm super intimidated by the FFXIV SMN AF. I got a better look at it and it's a LOT more complicated than the WHM was. There's a lot of what looks like leather details all over the body piece. The horn worries me because I won't be able to slip it under my wig like the WHM circlet... A lot of thought is going to go into this. So much, in fact, that I might just scrap the SMN AF and start working on the AFv2. It will take months to get a complete set, but it might take me months to MAKE the complete costume... so I can easily start on one piece at a time (as I get it ingame). Phew.

Tifaia... although I haven't played FFXI for years, I still sometimes listen to the soundtrack. It's just so beautiful and it brings back so many memories. I used to sit in the Sanctuary of Zi'Tah for hours just because of the music there.

The hat was horrid to look at anyways, we didn't call it a condom hat for no reason. Only way I'd possibly be able to tolerate it is if I made it a modified AF3 (the emperyean set from Abyssea had the more traditional hood for a hat) and just blame a .DAT swap >.>

My problem is...I tend to be an accuracy freak (which is why it seems like nothing is done when I want it to be). Cleric's is like a bad mix of a Tabard and a Doublet, actually. Finding a pattern to match that stupid friggin panel layout...ung. It really amounts to wearing a brown suede cloth bag with a bunch of stuff added to it....brb patterning that from newspaper >.>

But enough about that, FFXIV has finally made it so I can say goodbye to FFXI despite the loooooooooooooong list of things I never did (and no longer have time for).

Next major prop project:

Looking at a mix of wood, wonderflex, and resin castings of a couple small sculpted parts.

A couple requirements for myself:

1. Must fold over itself (just not at the ridiculous speed it does in game).
2. Able to draw (weakly, cons don't like live projectile weapons)
3. Harp tuned G2-G3 or C2-C3 in Amin or Dmin ('Answers' is a 1 octave melody in A minor or D minor....Calloway's part is D minor)

Yeah, that last part requires me to delve into harp construction a bit...and the pillar is in a stupid place on this thing. At least it has 8 strings to begin with so tuning in a minor scale is simple enough. I did say I'm a little crazy, didn't I?

Once I have that figured out I'll worry about my AF...omg, sooooo much applique and custom jewlery to make @_@

Oh my god, you're going to make the harp functional? What would be BEYOND impressive. I've seen some pretty good replicas, but none functioned that way. If you seriously make it possible to accompany the song "Answers" with your Artemis Bow, I would love to do some sort of musical skit/performance with you and other FFXIV cosplayers. Please tell me you live somewhere close to NY. We could do a ridiculously cool rendition of Answers along with choreography/'fighting'. I've been practicing singing that song for years and I was so happy when they fit it in with the ending cinematic to 1.0.

I'm about to start working on the Thyrus... which I was supposed to have done for Otakon, but my boyfriend who was going to help me (time restraints) broke his hand a week before. o.o;; I'm using PVC pipe and expanding foam (with a loose cardboard base for shape), which I will then cover to make it more solid and paint to have the right color. I may use the same method to make the summoner horn when I get to it.

Making the SMN book shouldn't be too hard... but I will have to wire some LEDs into the book so that the crystal 'glows' properly. I'm thinking I can hide a power source inside the book if I am careful, as long as there is a way to take the paneling off. If I could make an on/off switch, I could figure out how to only make it glow when I take it out.

My dream: SE one day releases 'aesthetic' slots and allows arcanists to 'choose' a specific color feather pen when they summon. (Right now it's a default white feather). The color pen would have no statistical value, but it would be something that would allow every character to be unique.

Well, I figured out that making this draw in a realistic manner is probably NOT feasible, both due to most con rules and it's just a poor design functionally. Yes, there are hinged longbows in the real world, but nothing like this. So...elastic cording it is! >.>

@Via: I live in south-central PA currently, which would make Allentown the halfway point (approximately). It's something to think about for Otakon 2014 anyways though...

EDIT: @__@ Not sure how feasible this harp thing is. The harp/lyre section doesn't exactly conform to any standard instrument construction I've seen. There's NO place for a soundbox that makes acoustic sense, and half the strings are pulling on the belly side of the harp (which has no post or limb to support it), which under the tension of the strings could snap.... I want to make this work, but it might be one of those things I build later and graft into the rest of the Bow (yay for interchangeable parts?)...

I feel like the graphic designers who came up with the bow design didn't think about the functionality of it... so if you wanted to alter the design to make it more functional, I think that would be fair. The fact that it would WORK would far surpass the aesthetic integrity of the ingame item because OMG IT WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY. =P

Started hacking out the lower limb of Artemis (probably the hardest to shape overall because the harp is relatively flat-faced). Sorry for bad phone pics, my parents took my good camera.

Also, made this while experimenting with wonderflex. For those who don't recognize it, it's half of a DRG gauntlet (which as to be made as three pieces to get it on and off). Credit for the inspiration goes to Asumi Eoi (Evil-Siren).

Looks great so far! Love to see more people are getting into FF14 costumes. Since opening up commission work, I've had 5 requests for FF14. ROFL took on a very literal meaning.

SO GLAD to see this thread. I'm just getting started grabbing materials together for my Kan-E-Senna cosplay. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for how to form her hair though. I got a very nice extra long honey blonde wig from Epic Cosplay for Black Friday.

Not my tumblr but good ref pics

Is this something I'm going to have to form around a wire prototype? Would that be too heavy?

I played on Fenrir in 11 and I am on Faerie (Lethe Reoreia) in 14 :00
I've always wanted to do a FF costume back then, but I wasn't confidant in my sewing abilities XD . I am currently working on Summoner AF for ALA and Vegas Otakon. Started on my Grimoire before the costume because the lack of fabric, my book
and I am working on the jacket right now jacket and dress/shirt/why are the guys wearing the same thing...

As I'm digging into the harp section of Artemis, I started looking thru the few instruments in my house for inspiration on mounting (and maybe tuning) the strings. I have 2 cellos, a violin, a flute, and a guitar around the house. Some of these have parts (which I'll buy new ones of, I won't sacrifice them for this puropse...it's not a holophoner!) that are obvious candidates for incorporating into this. Namely the fine tuners off the violin family (viola tuners specifically seem the right size) and tuning pegs off my guitar seem likely candidates. The keys from the flute maaaaaaay be taken off and molded for the quiver, as they're a very close match.

Back to work!

Researching on doing a Merlwyb cosplay and wondering if I should paint my skin the pale whitish blue like she is in-game? For sure I'm going to find someone to do her guns, wig, and boots but the skin...is bothering me cause I don't want to look clownish but it's still a very noticble thing on her.

My girlfriend and I keep arguing over what color to paint the DRG AF...purple/gold (AF1) or blue/silver (ilvl 90 set)...

I say purple because Gae Bolg is purple...but she insists on the other scheme despite keeping gae Bolg purple. #FFCosplayProblems

I was wondering if someone can tell me the job class that Miqo'te is on the picture (the one in the grey dress)? I thought it was like a novice outfit but I couldn't find anything on it. I haven't started to play FFXIV but I will be buying and playing it soon. I plan on working on the said costume and also a Miqo'te white mage.

After saeeing This thread:

About someone wanting to do a Conjurer cosplay:
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/C...Fantasy_XIV%29
It made me want to do one. The design is super cute and I would love to do it. Problem is..I've never played XIV..Not only that, but I couldn't..Not only can I not find it anywhere to get, I can't afford even crappy low priced used games, let alone this one (that is, IF I can find one). Then I also don't have a computer that can hold the game (all crappy older computers that can barely hold a game..). But I normally also am not into the MMO style, where I more play just the normal FF games..Anyway, the point was I wanna cosplay that cuz I like the design, so what does the FF community think about someone in this predicament?

I also really like the Lancer:
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/L...Fantasy_XIV%29
And the Thaumaturge:

This might help some people, this is a model viewer for ffxiv. I believe it does not require the game to be installed to work.

http://xivmodels.com/

@thebunnyninja

I believe the outfit you are looking for is some kind of tabard, not really a dress , she just isn't wearing pants, design wise look up Hoplite tabard, I could be wrong but it's worth looking into.

@jasonterror

That set of armor should be the Vanya set, try looking up Vanya robe of healing.

Lancer looks like they are wearing Gryphonskin set, so look up Gryphonskin Jerkin.

Thaumaturge, also wears Vanya, but their gear is named slightly different, in this case Vanya robe of Casting.

Most Armor can be dyed in ffxiv so technically, you can't go wrong with color.

I hope this somewhat helps.
