Do you make your own clothing?

Working on my cosplay. Inspired me to make a schools outfit for my family/friends for them to wear. But idk if it's in the school regulations to allow handmade uniforms. If not that then they can just wear it for halloween or cons themselves. Have you always made your own clothing or are you now getting into it?

I've made my own party dresses for a long time, but for regular clothes the thrift store is a lot more practical (frabric's expensive!) although it's nice to be able to modify stuff I find there. I'm just starting to learn pattern drafting though, so once I have some really refined patterns that fit my body, I might make more of my own clothes, especially tailored stuff for work.

Generally no; cosplays and fashion school projects (can't wear those myself, I'm a size ten and til final year we make everything from a standardized size six pattern) take enough time to make as it is, and I don't have a serger, plus quality fabric's bloody expensive. I'd only make my own clothing item if it was a high-end or formalwear piece I couldn't afford to buy myself, and if I had access to all the proper equipment so it DIDN'T look obviously homemade/would later fray and be unwearable. I DO really want to make a really awesome-looking Vogue dress I bought a pattern for over a year ago but keep either not being able to afford the exact fabric used in the photo (shipping SUCKS in Canada) or not having time.

Recently looked thru how to make your own dresses. How to make a whole dress or skirt out of a scarf. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSo0WC3psLw

Not yet. I want to, though.

Is there a school-supplied uniform or is it really more like a strict dress code? If it's the latter, as long as it follows the school's rules, it should be fine. Ask your friends/family or contact the school to find out what's allowed.

I would love to. Now that I've left school, I have a lot of time to devote to pattern making (never brought a pattern in my life!) and sewing. I like buying brand stuff from stores, though. I don't have a sublimation printer!

I make clothing and sell it on, though. But thats a whole story for another time. Because it tends to foray into costumes, and kinky lingerie.
