#1. Never lean a large top heavy prop against walls or tables. Just ask someone and they weill hold it.

#2. Always carry super glue with you.

Listen to the instructions on the spray paint can and sand the plastic before you paint it to avoid chipping (should have been a no brainer, but I'm laaaaazy)

I learned that it gets HOT inside a foam head, and that having no peripheral vision is very very bad. (I'm surprised I didn't fall into that giant hole by the icecream trucks!)
So now I know that vision is essential for AN costumes cause it is so crowded! I didn't end up wearing my Skull Kid costume for very long cause I couldn't do ANYTHING while in it. I might bring it back for next year though - I'm thinking of entering the Masquerade, since it's a costume I'm really proud of!

Lesson 1: Mehron makeup sucks for layering.

Lesson 2: Lipstick makes for a very sticky and hot makeup substitute--but at least it protects from sunburn.

Lesson 3: Apparently rare earth magnets are strong enough to stick to the inside of a mailbox through an inch of packaging material but aren't strong enough to stick together through a couple milimeters of paint and plaster.

Lesson 4: Wearing thick black and white makeup for damn near a whole day leaves you looking like a Tim Burton character when you wash it off.

Shoes, it's all about the shoes.

Always test my shoes before cosplaying, and make sure they are structurally sound. It was the one part of my Yojimbo costume that failed a bit...they started warping under my weight and by the end of Saturday I was walking on shoes leaning drastically outward and sporting a series of very large blisters on both feet. Thankfully I brought my flats along and was able to swap out for those on Sunday. But I was seriously worried when I started walking across the stage in the masquerade that I would fall flat on my face from the pain.

I was in photoshoot land then went to the dealers room, I didn't spend any time at DT. I even told my bro to look out for you even though he doesn't know the awesome-ness of the show. I was super bummed out!!! Still am.... I NEED to see a pick of you at least... I love all her outfits...

LePage Super Glue Liquid Pro is great for standing up to heat. Comes in a 20mL bottle and runs for about 9 bucks at Home Depot. I was heating some pvc foam I glue onto a piece of wood over a rounded edge and the glue stayed put nicely.

Some things can not be substituted for. Tried using regular hook style fasteners instead of a busk on the front of a corset. The gap that resulted was amazing and certainly ended up with me sewing myself into the corset.

Also heels are only good if the heels are evenly worn. Used shoes had some uneven wear which resulted in me having to constantly adjust my gait and ended in much pain.

stop trying to do shoes correct to the character. I had 4 inch wedges for both my cosplays and after an hour of walking, I had to take them off and put them back on for pics because my feet were murder.

^ God yes, I can't tolerator an incline larger the 2.5" on the heel (and due to pavement at AN last year my feet went numb even with that. >_< ) and I've got a lot more weight on my feet then a size 5 girls. lol

I'a always looking for Demi Wedge Platforms shoes so that I get the heel high without being only the 6" heel height.
