this will be my first time going to ax since 2003. this will be the first time im looking for a hotel. i didnt see anything about it on the website so im really lost. id love to book a hotel before they are sold out. anyone know whats the con hotel or place really close to it. im coming from out of state

Housing hasn't opened up yet, meaning AX itself hasn't posted the hotel rates. You could book a hotel early, but you'll get a discounted rate if you wait until AX opens things up. Just keep an eye on the website, or their Twitter/Facebook pages.

Yup! What Michi said :P Last year they opened up the hotel block around late February/early March, so it should be soon!

Keep checking out the AX homepage, as well as the AX FB page and Twitter accounts for updates. According to what I've heard from Twitter, hotels will go up at the end of this month or early next month...but we'll see.

Just as a heads up, while AX may post rates for all of their hotels as a guideline, the last few years that AX has been in LA, they don't usually put all the hotels up for booking at the same time. They will start with the Westin Bonaventure (about a mile away from the convention center) and then after a couple weeks or so open up the rest of the hotels on their block. I've stayed in the Westin a couple times and it's a nice hotel, but if you can afford it, I'd highly recommend the JW Marriott as it's the closest of all hotels and it's also the nicest. But, it is rather pricey though

The JW Marriott is amazing. I stayed there in 2011 with friends and it was so worth being that close.

Also great about the JW Marriott...

No need for buses. Those with big cosplays or large skirts can side step the issue of "will I fit on a bus?" just walk to the con.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn City Center in 2009 which is one of the "walking distance" hotels, but it was still several blocks. Basically I am definitely hoping to be at the JW again.

Also, I checked the booking system, and I am just stumped as to how Saturday & Sunday can already be sold out for the J.W. Marriott? (The rooms just opened up. That's just crazy!)

Wow! That's crazy about the J.W. I'm a fan of the Westin, so I'm excited there's still room there. You think the price increase is due to the 4th of July?

Possibly, but there are no places to watch fireworks around that area of downtown LA. Possibly the closest place would be Dodger Stadium. I just reserved a double bed from Day 0 to Day 4 at both JW and Westin minutes after it went up. Crazy that hotels for AX is nearing the insanity of Comic Con and Fanime.

Yes, unfortunately, some of the hotels can get expensive.


I would highly recommend Freight's room plan, if the hotels are priced out of your range. It is one of the best deals that you'll get at AX. (Especially, if you want a nice convention hotel room that's located right next to the convention center. Plus, since this is your first time to AX since 2003, it will be easier to navigate around the con with the J.W. Marriott, since the hotel is very close to the convention center.)

Don't wait or procrastinate too long though, because at the rate that things are going with the hotel reservations, his room plan may sell out soon as well.

I did get the rooms I needed. No fibbing, the shares are a bit more expensive then a lot of plans, but I emphasize breathing room, and I stay the days before and after a convention if I can help it. I'd rather maximize my time at a convention and use other days for travel.

Wow, insane how quickly the JW is out of rooms it seems. But price aside, there's something to be said for being so close to the LACC and being in the middle of LA Live and its food options though most of them are a bit out of many attendee's price range
