Fate Grand Order, Hans Christian Andersen cosplay book help

Hello, I am currently working on the book for my Fate Grand Order's Hans Christian Andersen cosplay, I have the pages colored in white and the magic circle on the inside of the book completed. However, I am not sure how to make the large book strap in the center of the book. I was thinking of possibly using Eva aka craft foam for the book strap, but I am not certain how well that would work, given the fact that the book would need to be able to open and close, which I believe would ruin the foam.
Plus, the strap would have to droop towards downwards, which I believe eva/craft foam would have a problem with since it's relatively stiff.

Any who, I was wondering if I should make the book strap out of Eva/craft foam? Or should I try to make it out of a different type of material? If I should make it out of a different material, what type would you recommend that I use for the strap?
Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon.https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20170208151559

When you're talking about the bookstrap, you mean the blue "fire" standing in the middle? Or the slightly drooping piece on the spine?

If the fire, I'd consider using actual paper and making it along the lines of a pop-up book. If you're talking about the piece on the spine, I'd get some pleather from a fabric store. Or maybe silk, but given the character design, I'd lean towards a fake leather.

The book strap needs to be leather or something that looks like leather. You can buy bags of scrap leather and small pieces at craft stores. You could also cruise thrift stores for an old garment made of leather and recycle it (I do that a lot).

Big old books, like this is modeled after, were nearly always bound in leather, sometimes leather over wood covers, with all kinds of beautiful metal hardware.

Some of the images are modern shows, but many are originals. Books were chained to the shelves to prevent theft as producing books was costly until paper production was industrialized. It's a good reference for the kind of details you want though

EDIT: DON'T SCROLL DOWN TOO FAR GOOGLE LIKES TO THROW UGLY CRAP INTO SEARCHES SOMETIMES
