Pre-registration wait time?

So I was curious, about how long is the line to get your badge for people who have already pre-registered online?

I won't get to the Gaylord until about 11:30 on Friday, and I have a photoshoot to get to at 12. I was wondering if I should just wait until after the photoshoot to get my badge, or will the line move fast enough?

It could take well over an hour or just a few minutes. It all depends on the timing of people coming into the convention, how long the line really is and how many staffers are manning the pre-reg station. The lines should open up when/before the con opens (unless staffers are unprepared for whatever reason). Generally once the line is moving it keeps at a steady pace. There's not really any way to know for sure how fast it will move.

This might be a question better asked of a staffer (or you could try katsucon.org's FAQ). Generally staffers are nice about replying to e-mailed questions.

Hope that helps!

last year took me about 30-45 minutes and I got there between 4-5pm. However, in previous years when I got there earlier it only took about 15 to 20 minutes. You could probably take a look at how long the line is when you get there and make your decision based on that.

I accidentally fell in line last year (cuz' there wasn't any clear communication as to where Artist Alley badge pickup was) and it only took me about 30 minutes to reach the front. It really depends on what time you arrive though.

It really depends on when you go. I've been there years that it's taken literally hours. I've been when the registration line went twice as fast as the pre reg. I've been when it took ten minutes.
Sometimes you get the staffers who don't care and chat when there are hours-long lines. Sometimes there's just the general ineptitude of keeping twice as many staffers on a line that's almost gone instead of moving them to the line that needs help. And sometimes it's awesome and they are on their game and everything is unicorns and rainbows and you're in and out if ten minutes.

but, tl;dr it really depends on when you go and what's going on at the time.

It's usually been under an hour for me, but I intend to just bring my 3DS and a bottled drink and prepare to hang out for awhile, just in case.

Last year, for me, I was in line for at least an hour. The normal registration line, on the other hand, was much faster, and I was distraught to see that people entered line far after me on that side, and left much sooner.

I'd suggest you go to the photoshoot before you get in line.

Non-registered last year around noon last year was about 1-2 hours wait time on Friday (The line was MASSIVE 200+ people)

The pre-registration was about 30-40 minutes.

I agree with EimiJ7. There is literally NO way to be able to tell how long the pre-reg line will be until you get there. Just stick your head into the room when you get there and eyeball it to see whether you think you can make it or should go straight to your shoot.
