Making a foxtail...out of wig hair??

Hi there!

I'm working on a star gaurdian Ahri cosplay!...just out of curiosity would wig wefts be a viable material for constructing a fox tail? Iv been looking at yarn foxtail tutorials, which have really amazing results; my dilemma is, the colors that I have picked out for the wig are super hard to match with yarn colors. I figured I could get a perfect ear and tail match if I use wig wefts from the wig shop I'm going with (arda wigs)....I figured I could creat a base, trim the wefts in a way that makes them have a feathered look and sew it into the base.

What do you think?

Yes, I think it will work, but it will cost WAY more than yarn. Like 4-6 times more easily.

If you are looking at Walmart for yarn, that's why you can't find the colors you want. Try these sources:
Knit Picks: http://www.knitpicks.com/?gclid=CjwK...hoC8HQQAvD_BwE
WEBS: https://www.yarn.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA...COugQAvD_ BwE
Lion direct, what all the chains carry is about 1/4 of what they produce. https://www.loveknitting.com/us/lion...20brand%20yarn

As Penlowe said, yarn comes in every shade imaginable so you should be able to find the right color somewhere. And a lot of yarns could be dyed if you want to get really exact. While a hair tail is an interesting idea I just don't think it's a very cost effective one while yarn is still an option.

A word of warning though, yarn tails take forever to make and are quite labor-intensive. If you're planning on doing multiple tails, or honestly even just one decent-sized one, be sure to give yourself a lot of time. You'll also need to add some sort of core if you want it to hold up at all rather than just dangling. I know Ahri's kind of known for more upright, floaty tails.
