A couple of years ago, the Megacon security asked about my "staff" because it was metal. (It was a curtain rod.) They didn't take it away or kick me out, but it was sort of annoying.

I would think so, as long as you don't take it out.

For that matter, you could just have a sword handle coming out of a sleeve.

I still remember last year's Megacon and how unbelievably strict they were about weapons. I saw folks left and right having their weapons taken away by the cops when there was no rough housing or the like involved(which I could understand if some kids were messing around - wouldn't want anyone to get hurt). Wooden weapons with no metal on them etc. were being taken away.

Just be careful.

You guys think this would pass a weapons check?

http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1867718/

Its got the orange tip and I'm leaving the magazine out of it. I was thinking of painting the whole front orange but I don't want to. I'd glue the side to keep it from moving, but I don't want to ruin the gun

EXsoldierSNAKE,

Last year I was in an Umbrella Corporation trooper costume with actual riot gear and I carried an orange-tipped Airsoft MP5. I had no problems whatsoever with security. Definitely conceal it in (for example) a plastic bag when you're not in the hotel, and you should be fine. That's my experience, at least!

And i hadn't bought my ticket yet either. -sigh- Now I'm doing Maka again with the biig scythe I hope its not too too strict.

Funny, I had no problem last year. My boyfriend had a giant 5-foot buster sword as Cloud, which he walked around with both days of the con, and I had fairly large dual-blades for my Pit, and we encountered no trouble whatsoever. I swear they just randomly pull people aside or something. Always good to use the prop/weapons policy on the site as a guideline though and know what is absolutely unacceptable well before the convention.

oh wow this has me a bit worried then.... I'm making a Yoko Ritona sniper rifle from Gurren lagann and that thing is going to be huge! about 7 and a half feet long! I think it'll be able to come apart but I dont know if I can carry it in a bag.

You guys think this would be okay to bring? It can't fire, and I have an orange tip for it. The only thing that makes me think it won't pass inspection is that the front and rear rights that I have for it are made of metal, and so is the outer barrel. Other than that it is plastic.
