I'm having qa bit of a fabric delema as wi want to use Teal velveteen but No one stock thats shade in Southern Ontario. (Dark green yes but not teal)

I also need 11 yards of the stuff for Merida.

This is the only on i can order but it had a gold flower design on it.

The other issue is that it's the only store to sell cotton based velvet to Canada.

This is another option but I'm not a fan of the shiny quality of most 90% Polyester 10% Spandex velvets but it's my only solid fabric option.

This is probably the one and only Disney Princess I'll ever do but I have her hair (me on a mad day) and the ridiculously rosy complexion with freckles as well. I'm usually cursing it and covering it up with a full coverage foundation to hide my red cheeks just don't work with cosplays.... for once I can actually wear less foundation.

I also think the dress is a darker green in the trailers since it matches the plaid worn by her father (weird lighting *ugh*) and when I used the dark hunter green shade it made the wig pop more. To each his own, though, I know your dress will look gorgeous irregardless of the "proper" color, lol.

It's out of stock till the end of May so June it should be back in, I've got time. The shade on screen looks the same. ^_^ Cross my finger they will have another good sale code in time for the restock.

I'm not sure how to do the gussets under the arms though, or what kind of fabric I'll need for the dress (silk?) Also, the wig. Does someone know where I can find a wig that bouncy?

Once I see the movie, I might dress up as another character, though. We'll see.

Techinally the split part is an under-dress she wears the is revealed when the seam rips when she moves her arms to pull the bow. You can see the collar of it in white as well.

Silk or a nice Sateen fabric would works. Silk won't be period accurate but the Queen's looks like a Silk Dupioni with all the nubs in it.

what pattern are you using that calls for 11 yards, ooc.

In the hi-res screen caps I've found it looks pretty teal, rather than green, but yeah I agree it really is an each to their own. I'm using a nice deep teal (more toward the green end than blue) linen (as that's a bit more accurate for the time period) since I'm doing this cosplay for the summer, and linen breathes. XD The chemise (under dress) is really the only thing that will probably make it warmer than I'd really like, lol.

XD I think I got away with 5 for my Gothel, and 8 for Merida because of the really full skirt. Eleven just seems really excessive to me. My Elizabethan and Tudor gowns didn't even take that much fabric.

Yes I found another one that is MUCH simpler, the two I was looking at were really full in the skirt area.

Also some of the fabric I was looking at were extra narrow so it would jump from 9.5 yard to 11.



Does linen come in softer weave as the only I come across are rather thick and tight or potato sag style.

I'm also not using wool form my cape..... I have a skin reaction to wool (itchy/readness/welts) and it will be summer. I feel like I'm cheating but I avoid wool as much as possible and only have winter coat that I protect my self from with scarves and glove. lol

Avoid that McCall's pattern, it puts together like crap. That first Butterick you have listed (B4827) works nice - I've put it together a few times.

Most linen is light and not really thick. Its great because it breathes nicely in the heat (something velvet doesn't seem to do as well). If you have trouble finding it in your local JoAnn's, ask one of the clerks to help. There should be some that isn't like potato sack (I've seen that stuff too). And if not, there's always online? (I use linen for almost -everything- not fancy for my SCA clothes).

I'm not using wool for my cloak either. HECK no. I don't have reactions to it like you, but like you saif, its going to be summer, and there's just now way, lol.

I'm somewhat jealous of the magical place that is JoAnn's as the online ctataloge is HUGE. lol

Most of the time I only see linen in the fabric section of Toronto, as Fabricland would never bother to carry it and what you find at Len's Mill is for drapery only. ^_^

I actual have all my fabric for her but the teal outerlayer dress. I'm wait for a swatch before I decided.

In fact all I need is a good wood bow that I can carve into. ^_^

I got very luck! I was just at Fabricland to pick up some thread for my current project and they had Dark Teal 100% cotton velveteen on sale for $9.50 a meter. It's a low luster version so it even less colour shifting then my Jack one. It's also lighter weight then the other velveteen I used.

The shade is almost exact to the movie colour with a stronger blue tone just a tiny bit darker but I don't mind, I'll be an even more flaming pale redhead with it. I saw it on the rack and had a freakout.

I'm also sure it's the same fabric as the one ayaasan linked from Fabric.com above. I ordered a swatch from them before fining this that is coming in the mail.

I'm probably not staring her still after the movie comes out (well the cape and the bow I could work on. ^_^)

I just saw the dolls and the movie preview yesterday. I'm in love with that outfit! Is there a good way to simulate slashing on the sleeves without making an entire under-dress?

I was explaining slashing to my date, and I think he was kind of confused.
