My friends and I have been throwing around the idea of cosplaying as our D&D characters one year, It'd be a very amusing inside joke but no one would really get who we were cosplaying. (not that that matters necessarily, I've seen some amazing cosplays and had no idea which anime/game/whatever they were from) At the same time I always get excited when I see a cosplay from a series that I like. I guess my question is, is it worth it to cosplay a character that no one will know?

Well, do what makes you happy! I love having fun and i love D&D...u actually gave me the idea to cosplay my own character! I already had drawn out a couple of my characters and in different scenarios and costumes so yea...i think its a great idea...and you guys could even do a skit and make a video and anything...i say go for it and have fun!

I'm seriously thinking of cosplay as my first D&D character someday. The only reason it'll be a while is I have so many planned already, and I made a detailed outfit for her so it won't be cheap to put together. If someone asks you who you are you can honestly reply with "[your character's name] from D&D". It'd be so much fun!

I always wanted to do my fav dnd characters, really had to wait before people were open minded to the whole thing.

My rule of thumb for hobbies is: do what makes you happy. Even if it's only your friends who recognize you, get some great photos and you'll have a nice memory and a picture you can add to your character sheet.

Yes. Especially if the rest of your group will too. You'll have the benefit of wearing a costume you like, something you have complete control over, and friends to share with. Very rarely do I cosplay as a character from media etc. And I frequently see people dress as their avatar from games etc. It doesn't take away at all from a really outstanding costume.

Just go for it. Even if noone else knows, it'll be cool. Maybe have the whole group cosplay to sessions every now and then.

I've also considered cosplaying my favorite D&D character, but it's going to be a while as he's a bit of a freak. So many extra limbs. Things happen when you play the same character for several IRL years.
The cosplay I'm planning for Akon this year is based off of my newest D&D character, which I intentionally made into a gijinka gallade. (3.x Edition: Multi-classed Soul Knife - Scout, prestige classing into Elocater. The dual mind blades form over the forearms, though still use the stats of short swords, as per the power description.)

I think there is no problem with cosplaying someone no one knows, if you do it well enough people will ask about it anyway makes good conversation.

I think it's quite a good idea, one day I hope to cosplay my bard. It's a good idea to keep armour race specific/ like thief armour would be light (and usually made from leather) and Barbarian would be light/medium armour (mixed materials). Sorry rambling now! Anyway yes it would be a good idea but no one would know who you are until they ask or you post online, as long as your enjoying making/wearing the costume then it doesn't really matter.

I've cosplayed as my D&D character. Pretty much only our D&D group got it but hell if I cared. I was my character darnit! Everyone else of course just assumed I was a random elf but hey, at least they realized I was an elf..lol

Oh wow! D&D CosPlay! Yes! Me and my D&D group do this - every week - in game! I do a Gnome Illusionist Thief from SpellJammer (I smuggle giant space hamsters). It's so much fun to move from your game up a level and wow, to do it at a convention - yes! Go for it! It doesn't matter if anyone knows who you are or not, it's all about doing a character you love, even if it's a character you made up!

I think it's a great idea if it makes you happy. I also really wanna try to Cosplay using one of my recent D&D characters or even my Star Wars character, it'd be SO much fun!
