Description of Myself: I am a 22-year old male who will be attending Anime Expo for the third time. I have experience with multiple conventions around the country, and am excited to return back to Anime Expo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are the rates per night or for the whole stay?
It's for the whole stay. I do not have a per night rate.
When would the payment be due?
I ask a deposit as soon as possible to ensure that you can cover your cost at the convention. I ask that payment be sent at least a month prior to the convention. This gives me time to compile payment for the hotel, as well as weed out any last second drop-outs.
How do you like payment?
I prefer Venmo, money orders, or checks. These methods can be traced, or cancelled and retrieved, if necessary.
Why is your rate so F@$#ing expensive?
I try maintain a humane rooming situation for everyone. Also, hotel rates have been increasing over the past few years due to the increasing attendance of AX and limited hotel space.
Do you accept Paypal?
Yes. We have to be careful since they can take a chunk out of the payment in fees. Venmo is as easy to use and absolutely free to use for money payments and trackable.
What do we do about food (water)?
I am planning a buy-in pool of water and basic snacks to help keep everyone hydrated and somewhat satiated during the convention. I am trying to keep the cost per head under $20 for the entire weekend. I will also try to schedule optional group meals so we can all meet, sit, relax, and eat. No one has to attend, but it is a great way to meet other fans and make friendships. I will do my best to avoid major gatherings and events when scheduling them.
Is there a Girl/Guy Only room?
Sadly, I need to make rooms co-ed to ensure room costs are fully covered. I will ensure beds are single gendered and will create single gender room when possible.
I'm under 18... Can I still go?
I'll take people as young as 15, but if you are younger than 18, I HAVE TO SPEAK TO YOUR PARENTS FIRST. This is non-negotiable. If you're a minor, you lie to your parent/guardian about where you are, and you're found with me and/or my friends, that's a potential kidnapping charge on the adult(s) you're found with, and that's a great way to ruin a convention and my day.
What is your cancellation policy?
I understand life happens and unexpected things pop up. I'd appreciate if you can decide if you're cancelling by the end of May. I'll accept your cancellation up to a week before the convention, though. However, it's very hard to guarantee a full refund within a week of the convention. The reason for this is there's other people counting on everyone paying their fair share. A single missing person per room increases everyone's cost by as much as $100.
What's the rule about drinking?
I don't mind social drinking or fun drinking, but I will not tolerate getting fall-down drunk. NO MINOR DRINKING, PERIOD. If you're an adult who gives a minor alcohol, we'll have a few unkind words, and I won't hesitate to involve the authorities and kick you out.
Someone in the room is getting on my nerves...
Bring anything up with me. As roomshare coordinator, I will handle all issues like this. Few things can make remove the enjoyment from the event than people becoming irritated with one another. Even if it doesn't get to fighting, you're giving the cold-shoulder to someone else, and everyone else in that room will get caught in it. That's not fair to rest of the roomshare.
Um... I broke something. (in the room/hotel)
This should be a no-brainer, but be prepared to pay for it. I thoroughly inspect rooms before I check out. The property in the room are reserved with my credit card and if something comes up broken, it comes from my credit card. I limit my risks by being careful. If no one comes forward for damages, I will bill everyone in that room for the damage, so please do right by your roommates.
What happens if I break "the rules?"
I escort you out of my room block. No refunds, no arguments. You're out.
-Any other questions, please feel free to ask via my contact information.
SEEKING ROOMMATES
Name: Freight
Hotel: Residence Inn
Dates: June 30 - July 5
Rate: $380/$275.00
Spaces Available: 3
Room Type: Larger Suite
Smoking or Non-Smoking: Definitely non-smoking
E-Mail: blackfreight03@yahoo.com
Details about me: I'm a 40-year old male who will be attending Anime Expo for the 23th time. I'm pretty straightforward. If you're looking for someone to spend time with at the convention, I can do that, or if you just want space and won't be around much, that's fine, too.
My simple philosophy about rooms is that if you go, you should only have to pay the money requested and show up. I'll take care of getting the rooms squared away. I have a good reputation at this hotel, and they recognize me by face, so if you have an issue, I can assist in getting it smoothed out.
Here's some frequent questions I get. If you have more, just ask.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What rooms do you have? Larger Suites
How long is the stay? July 1 - 4
Are the rates per night or for the whole stay? It's for the whole stay. I do not have a per night rate.
When would payment be due? I ask that payment be sent about a month prior to the convention. This gives me time to turn payments into cash for the hotels, as well as weed out any last second drop-outs. Besides, it makes it easier to keep other people's money separate from mine until necessary.
How do you like payment? I prefer checks or money orders. If cash is sent in the mail and the postman loses it, it's lost for both you and me. Checks or money orders can be traced by the sender, or cancelled and retrieved, if necessary.
Do you accept Paypal? I do. I ask that you send it as a "Friends/Family" item to so the fees associated with it are handled on your end. Any other way, and they can take a serious chunk out of the hotel monies.
What's the word on parking? Parking in this area can be expensive. If you're parking at the hotel, be aware it's $42 per night valet only. Bring this money to pay directly to the front desk. DO NOT CHARGE IT TO THE ROOM.
[i]Is parking included in the room share? [i] No. I've found not everyone drives or has a need for parking, so I don't get involved in that realm.
What do we do about food? The rooms have a full refrigerator in them, so you will have a chance to fill it with what you are looking for during the weekend.
I also plan on eating dinner out and if you want to join, let me know, or if you're interested in ordering a pizza, talking, and hanging out, I am more than open to that.
Aren't you a bit... um... old? That's a fair question. Simply answered, my inner child and I get a long pretty well, so I still collect anime and comic books, watch professional wrestling, cosplay, and hang out with a lot of younger people. If you see me talking to a bunch of 20-somethings, I'm not having a mid-life crisis. I just relate well.
Besides... I have over 2 decades worth of convention stories and good access to San Diego Comic Con. I can talk for hours about cons and geek culture.
I'm a girl and I don't want to room with guys... Not a problem. I have one girls only room currently set up. When you contact me, please mention you're interested in this specific set-up, and I'll give you the details.
I'm under 18... Can I still go? Sure. I'll take people as young as 14, but if you are between 14 and 18, I HAVE TO SPEAK TO YOUR PARENTS FIRST. This is non-negotiable. It sounds very over-bearing, but if you're a minor, you lie to your parent/guardian about where you are, and you're found with me and/or my friends, that's a potential kidnapping charge on the adult(s) you're found with, and that's a great way to ruin a convention.
What is your cancellation policy? I totally get life happens and unexpected things pop up like money troubles or friends suddenly inviting you to go. If you can decide if you're cancelling by the end of May, I'd appreciate it. Though, I'll accept your cancellation up to a week before the convention. However, it's very hard to guarantee a full refund within a week of the convention. The reason for this is there's other people counting on everyone paying their fair share.
What's the rule about drinking? I don't mind social drinking or fun drinking, but I don't condone getting fall-down drunk. Also, NO MINOR DRINKING, PERIOD. If you're an adult who gives a minor alcohol, we'll have a few unkind words, and I won't hesitate to involve the authorities.
Can we host a party in the room?! Short answer; No. These rooms are connected to me and I take my relationship with hotels and chains very seriously. Additionally, I am very against drugs! I went to a convention and had to help out 2 people roofied at a party, so drugs are on my bad side. You want to see me angry? Bring up drugs to anyone in any of my rooms and it gets back to me? It will not be fun...
Are you 420-friendly? No. See the above answer.
Someone I'm rooming with is getting on my nerves... See me on issues like this ASAP. I'm a decent negotiator and I will handle all issues like this. Few things can make a weekend more tense than people irritating each other and drawing lines in the sand. Even if it doesn't get to fighting, you're giving the cold-shoulder to someone else, and everyone else in that room will get frustrated and caught up in it. That's not fair to everyone in that situation.
"Um... I broke something in the room." This should be a no-brainer, but be prepared to pay for it. I also inspect rooms quickly before I check them out. The reason for that is if these things are reserved with my credit card and something comes up broken, I have to pay for it. I limit my risks by being careful.
What happens if I break "the rules?" I escort you out. Not out of the hotel or the convention, but out of my room block. No refunds and no arguments. You're out.
Any other questions, please feel free to ask.
This FYI should be a "sticky" on this Roomshare Thread.
Here's some important info to remember when looking for a room.
Over 95 % of the room shares are legit people looking for roommates to cut the hotel room costs down, but there were a few scammers here in the past. (The great vast majority are honest convention goers who just want to cut down the hotel costs.)
The scammers would offer a room, take the money and then don't show up at the con & then disappear online. (We had one scammer in the past on this thread, who took everyone's money, and disappeared online, when the day of the convention began.) If you have a bad gut feeling about someone, don't hesitate to look for another room share. If the room owner sounds really disorganized or scatterbrained, that may be a good sign to try to look someplace else. (You are under no obligation to stay in the room until you give them the money or sign a contract.)
Keep in mind that, a legit honest roommate opening their hotel rooms would not object to giving out a record of a monetary transaction record. If they adamantly refuse to give out any record of the transaction, look someplace else. (The transaction record protects them and you.)
Some of the rooms being offered would be really far, far away, and are not part of the convention hotel circuit. Some require a bit of a drive with a rental car or a long commute by public transportation. (It is your own responsibility to find out the distance of the hotels, and your own decision which hotel is suitable for your needs.)
Keep in mind that, rush hour traffic in downtown LA can be quite insane, and parking at the convention center can get filled up pretty quickly. (Being a part of the con hotel circuit & staying in a nearby con hotel means that you don't have to look for or fight for parking everyday)
Remember, when checking for the particular's hotel's distance & proximity to the convention center, Google is your best friend.
Be also prompt with your payment when it's time to pay up. Many of the room people who are opening their hotel rooms, are NOT going to want to hear excuses, of, "Can you I pay back after the con?", "I blew all my money on the merchandise", "Can I pay back you with artwork or a trade?", "I don't have the money right now", and "I forgot to bring the money". (In short, it's going to be no money, no room.)
Also, always secure your belongings & your money. Put a padlock on your luggage or carry on bags in the room. Unless your room are filled with close friends, you will most likely be rooming with strangers. (Most will be honest individuals, but there may be "one" in the crowd, who may decide to have a "5 fingered discount".)
Avoid also the room shares that, allow or encourages drugs & underage drinking, and allows underage minors without any prior parental approval or knowledge. That's just asking for bad news & serious trouble with the convention, the hotel, the minor's parents, and the police.
Also, when you make a payment or a deposit, make sure you have a legitimate receipt or it is on record like PayPal, money order or a check. This is to protect yourself, in case the owner claims that you didn't pay them, after you had given them the money. Try to avoid cash if you can, because there will be no proven record of the transaction ever taking place.
Incidentally, I would highly recommend Freight's room share plan. It's one of the best AX room shares, and he's very legit & he's been doing this for AX for a number of years now.
Heres some info for you!
---------------------------
Hotel: Millennium Biltmore Hotel
Price?: $150 per person
Personal requirements: We would prefer folks to be 18+ as everybody else in the room is 18+. Room requirements: You need to pay the money BEFORE June 30th
Hotel: JW Marriott
Hotel rates: $375
Where are you coming from: Inland Empire
Space Available: 0 (only floor space)
(Males are more then welcome in this room im seeing way to many female only rooms)
No Drugs, this is also a non-smoking room (no vaping in the room, no cigarettes, no weed sorry). This room is 18+ No Exceptions (if possible we would like to keep it 21+ because we do drink but we will not be letting anyone under the age of 21 drink.) if you are a parent bringing a under age child with you please do not get in contact with me. There will be ZERO tolerance for any kind of drama! This is a fun drama free room! (If you are causing drama you will be asked to leave and you will not receive a refund.) if you are going to drink please provide your own alcohol and please know your limit (we do not want to babysit you and we do not want people drinking till they get sick). Payment will be do in advance not when you arrive. (To keep things running smoothly with the hotel room and check in you will need to pay in advance before the convention for the simple reason everyone shows up at different times and different days.)
Amenities: Me and my friend have been running rooms together for the past 5 years, everyone that stays with us always has a great time! We do not book through the AX website because of all of the AX rules they have. We do book a Junior Suite (which is a really big room), please keep in mind that since we do not book through the AX site and we book a much bigger room we do not get the AX discount on our room so we are paying full price. We provide Drinks (soda, water, juice) and food (sandwiches and snacks) which is already included in the room price. We always have tons of anime and video games in the room. You are more the welcome to tag along with me or my friend during the convention if you want too, we want to make sure no one in our room feels singled out. If you ever have any issues don't hesitate to get ahols of Christian or myself.
Other Information: We are a very loud room, we like to have fun and most nights we sont wnd up going to bed till around 3-5 am. But if you can sleep with all the noise and lights on you're more than welcome in this room! If you cant sleep with a lot of noise then this room probably isnt for you, again were here to have fun so we dont want people complaining or getting mad about us being noisy all night. We do ask that your bring what you will need to be comfortable since there is only floor space in this room (bring your own pillows, blankets, showering towls, shampoo whatever els you shower with daily.) Thats all for now I cant wait to get a awesome group of people to fill up the room this year!!! Lets make this an awesome 2017 AX!!!
Contact: please contact me via email if interested because I probably will not check my nessages on here!! XxEmoSinLover@aim.com (please put something regarding the AX room in the subject line) also please specify age and gender when contacting me.
Looking for Room(s)!
Name / Age / Gender: Miguel, 27, Male
Hotels you would like to stay: Anywhere near the convention, as long as its part of the AX block and shuttle line. (Preferable if its either the Westin, Sheaton, LAHDT.)
Affordable rates you prefer: $100-150
How long are you staying: The entire AX weekend if possible.
Where are you coming from: AX local in SoCal, lol.
Where do you prefer to stay: No preference, Bed/Floor space is fine.
Requirements: No preference, as long as everyone in the room gets along fine!
Well, since my usual room sharing pal of 3 years since 2014-2016 at the Westin isn't going to AX this year due to prior commitments and plans he has scheduled this year differently (though he'll probably come back next year). I now have to look elsewhere for someone else to room with.
Been an AX local for nearly 10 years now (since '08), and will keep on going (unless times change otherwise), an all around friendly person that's usually keeps everything in check, such as hygiene, cosplay, inventory, and all other things. I don't drink/smoke (ever), since that's obviously bad for my health, lol.
Other than that, I'll be checking this thread often to find someone around my rate range, cause more than likely, the rest of the guests announcements will be coming soon, and AX is around the corner, so I'm used to it, and others will post their rooms up eventually.
Anyways, you'll usually see my username in most social circles anyways, but you can also PM me here at the Cosplay forums for more info (along with contact stuff). Make sure the subject header contains "AX" and "Room Share" in the same sentence, lol.
