Time to bust out the old Shinsengumi uniforms, Hakuouki- Shinsengumi Kitan (The Mysterious Tale of the Shinsengumi: The Pale Cherry Blossom Demon) recently got an anime! And by recently I mean April. Surely there are some cosplayers by now!~

For the unfamiliar, Hakuouki was originally an Otome-style game turned into an anime. Chizuru is searching for her missing father and, after witnessing an Oni attack, is taken in by the Shinsengumi. Weird things happen. The sparkling point here is that the characters have some decent personalities- they don't religiously stick to the "dark brooding", "shota", etc patterns.

...And they have pretty costumes. What?

Most of the leads have a Shinsengumi uniform along with a Western-style outfit. However, recently a calendar came out with absolutely gorgeous stylized designs <3

I'm planning on Chikage and Saito's Japanese-style uniforms but I really want Toshi's Western style and Chizuru's calendar illustration set ;A;

Originally Heisuke was planned as well, but then I decided against it. I'm a bit on a budget soon and need to save up. A good wig would be too expensive for now, but i'll keep him in mind for the future.

@Athel: I see many Samurai-related costumes in your plans... Have you ever considered doing a Samurai Warriors costume? (It's a video game).

I have both Souji's Japanese uniform and Hijikata's Japanese uniform with Demon mode (lawl) in my sights, but I'm not so sure if I'll ever get them done. I have so many other things I gotta dooooo D:

I do love the Samurai Warriors game series. I've actually only played the second one, though. XD I don't see any Warriors cosplay in my near future. But I always love Mitsuhide's design in the second game. ;3

The second was btw the 'weakest' of the series.

If you do the Shinsengumi cloak, will you sew on, paint on or iron on the white patterns? Or something else?

My friends and I are trying to pull together a big group with all the members. So far we're missing only Okita and Heisuke =)

I've been wanting to cosplay Okita for quite some time now, but I don't think I'll be able to get around to it until next year at earliest ;~;
But I wanna cosplay all his outfits, minus the Calender one.

Even though it was the "weakest" I still enjoyed it. :3

And as for the design:
I might remake my OLD shingengumi coat by using heat n' bond for attatching, then sewing the edges of the triangles to prefent fraying.

However, I might not even get around to doing it anyway. My only Hakuouki cosplay plans are Susumu and he doesn't even where the signature blue uniform. XD (Even though I hate Chikage, I have to admit I like the design of his full deamon form. I might add that to my future cosplay list, too.)

Just started watching this series, partially because I fell in love with the western outfits haha. But I am really enjoying it so far.

Alphonia- Full Hakuouki group for NYAF? That's amazing. I'm currently considering doing either Okita or Kazama's western outfits for that con. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for you guys with my camera in hand. :3

My group is going to do the western outfits, we just secured our Okita and Heisuke. We have the entire group now including a Chizuru =) If you do Kazama we can take some pictures with you too!

I was actually leaning more towards Kazama, since I already have a pair of red contacts. I'd love to meet you guys and take pictures!

Yay a Kazama! The current plans for the group is that we're gonna at least make one round around the entire convention as the full group on Saturday, then afterwards we might split up if the members have something else they wanna do.

Sounds good. It's hard to really plan out your day until the convention schedule is released.
