Real shells are pretty delicate. I'd want them attached securely with more that glue - what if one fell and cracked? And what if one got knocked off and you had to run back to your hotel room (or worse, farther away) with a breast hanging out?

It might work for a photo shoot in a controlled situation, but that's it. Otherwise you risk flashing people and ruining your costume.

Also, shells that size are heavy enough that they would drag down even firm breasts if just glued to them.

In the movie : http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__...aidFriends.jpg

There's a strap that goes behind the shells. So you could use the front of a strapless bra, attach your own strap, and do those clear straps over the shoulder, or nude colour ones - you can even use makeup on fabric ones to get them as close as possible to your skin color. Normally you want the band doing the supporting - so this is only a good solution if your breasts themselves don't need "support".

If you need more support, you could use a strapless bra with its original back and have the bra be either purple, partially painted purple, or nude with a different strap over it. With or without straps like above.

With some wig hair over the shoulders the straps would be hidden - and mostly you don't even see the band on a bra when people do it that way because the shells are so large.

If instead of real shells you cast the shells and made them out of latex they would be a lot lighter, not fragile, and be able to be glued on more securely with a decorative back strap. I would still wear those petal pasties under it - to protect the more sensitive areas from the spirit gum or other adhesive and just in case.

I know you're probably just being a jackass, but nipple piercings can take over a year to heal, and the downward force would not exactly be a look that most people would find attractive.

I actually cosplay as Ariel quite regularly at conventions. I think I might be able to help you with how to make your shells

I'd definitely recommend starting with a base bra, I'd go for a strapless bra since it would be more accurate to the film. For mine, I started out by using a pair of plastic seashells from party city. But the shells I got ran a little big which was good so they covered the bra cups completely.

I'd go for plastic because it's more durable than real shells and you won't run the risk of breaking them at the convention. I pretty much just hot glued them onto the bra cups since these bond to fabric really well. But if your planning on using them in water, I'd go for something stronger like a super glue or a E6000 that has a stronger hold.
