Polyfill alternative

Greetings all. I'm working on a large pill-shaped mascot. But I don't want to use Polyfill or Eva foam or foam to keep its shape. Could you please give me some ideas of other ways to create the structure with out using normal fillings.

Thank you kindly.

Build an internal structure like a hoop skirt, then cover it with chicken wire for smoothing out the shape (so you don't see the hoops poking through like ribs), then a layer of batting, then a layer of fabric.

Skip the chicken wire to make it easier to pack down, transport, and store; but you'll likely see the outline of the hoops through the batting and outer covering.

Got a picture of the prop you're trying to make? It would make suggestions easier.

Yeah, I can't tell if you're making a prop or a mascot costume. A picture or a least a little more description would be nice.

Sorry forgot the picture. I'm trying to redo a jumbo cactuar to look for rounded. I've made one before its in my profile. But its a little flat. For the life of me, I wasn't able to grasp how to keep the head shape. While balancing a round shape on my shoulders.

Your link is privacy locked, but I get which character you're going for.

You have a few options. FOAM (I know you said no foam...). Upholstery foam cut into a rube and a half dome (via multiple pieces glued together) joined together will give you a good base shape, be light, and collapsible for travel....

This guy looks to be upholstery foam, but without a fabric covering

Wrong character, sorta the right idea

You could also create a "cage" out of pvc, especially a sturdy shoulder/waist harness!, and cover that with batting and fabric.

Also, I highly suggest using speaker fabric or black buckram for the mouth/eyes as you can see out but others can't (as easily) see you.

Ah Thank you so much for the ideas. I've been trying to figure out no foam ideas. But I know it just still kinda works out to use foam. Also thanks for the idea on the buckram, that was the issue the first time around. thought the black fabric i had would be enough ... did not count on the power of the flash lol.
