Hammer prop: EVA Foam on Expanding Foam?

Hello everyone,

I am planning to make the Warhammer of Zillyhoo from Homestuck as my first weapon prop, and I was thinking about making it by using expanding foam. Because I want to make the rainbow part of the prop look as neat as possible within a reasonable budget, making them look like seperate arches like the one in the photo below rather than one solid arc, I was wondering if it were possible to glue pieces of EVA foam on expanding foam. Has anyone tried to glue EVA on expanding foam, and if so what glue would work? Or is it better to go for another material for this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance.

as my first weapon prop,
Get small amounts of both materials and see which techniques you can learn faster or master. Both are suitable, it's more about how you interact with the materials.

- don't try to carve the ball or boxes, use things that come in those shapes.
- use wire or dowel pegs to attach your segments together, don't rely on glue between flat surfaces. Especially the handle into the cube!! Must penetrate to be a substantial handle.
- the prop you linked is by a very highly skilled person, dare I say a Master Craftsman. Yours will not likely look nothing like that.

Expanding foam is sticky, messy, and gross. I wouldn't recommend it. Blocks of EVA foam would work.

I'd personally make this out of insulation-foam sheet (the pink or blue stuff). It's inexpensive, lightweight, and works well for making bulky, easy shapes like this.

Make sure the handle goes all the way through the hammer head. Don't try to stick it on after the fact - that 100% will not work.

Spray paint will ruin bare insulation foam, but after shaping and sanding the foam, you can coat it with paper mache, Since it's a simple shape, I'd use individual large sheets of paper that will fully cover each face of the hammer. After the paper mache dries, you can use spray paint.
