When is crossplaying not crossplay anymore?

If someone starts out as a crossplayer, but then realizes they're transgender and transitions, when is it not crossplaying anymore?

Asking for a friend.

I'd say, so long as the person has started wanting to be referred to as the gender they were crossplaying (as in, male to female, who crossplayed females characters, and now identifies as female), then that is now just normal cosplay, and they are not crossplaying as they identify with the gender of the character they are cosplaying.

Pretty much what happened to me.

Crossplay is just a word. You can stop using it whenever you want. You don't have to use it even if you do cross-gender costumes.

But trans people who want to embrace their identity usually stop using it when it makes them feel like they're still being pigeonholed into their birth sex whenever someone says the word. That's when I stopped.
