Straight Crossplayers?

Apologies in advance if this thread has already been created, but I didn't see it anywhere! I was just curious how many of us that crossplay consider themselves straight? Just a statistical curiosity, I love any cosplay no matter what sexual orientation or gender anyone assigns themselves with, it's just recently come to my attention that a vast amount of people automatically assume that since I'm dressed as a man then I'm a lesbian, which isn't true. Has anyone else encountered this? I've generally experienced friendly and open-armed convention-goers (which is awesome) but apparently there are some that loom in the shadows and assume things lol. Anyone have any experiences or anything they'd like to share? What about those who never crossplay, what sort of impression do you usually have of crossplayers?

I'm about 85%-90% straight. Less if John Barrowman is involved.

I've had people assume I was gay; and others assume incorrectly that straight or gay, I identified as a sissy. I usually cut people like that some slack: I know that often their brains are already a bit rattled by seeing a six-foot guy with a beard in a PVC dress.
If it's no fun, you're doing it wrong.
If other folks are making it no fun, they're doing it wrong.

*-*-* Beards and skirts, we're making it work! *-*-*

I'm a straight crossplayer, and for some reason, people can't understand that the reason I crossplay is simply because the female characters usually suck. When you put as much time and money into a costume as your standard comitted cosplayer...why would you want to do so for a character you don't even like? Especially when the only thing standing between you and the character you actually like is some binding and makeup?

Sure, I've had people weirded out by the concept of me dressing up like a man (convincingly so) but I just don't care. Even if I was a lesbian, that's not a derogatory term and shouldn't be used as such.

I've only been crossplaying for a few months, but I can certainly understand why the average person would ask this type of question. I am 100% straight, and I enjoy crossplay because it allows me to experience characters that are very different from regular life. Cosplay is all about taking a vacation from the mundane everyday life and seeing amazing characters come to life. Crossplay lets me be an entirely different person for a day, which is fun and exciting all around!

I'm pretty much straight as well, I just enjoy cosplaying as male characters more since they tend to be my favorite characters most of the time. And while I haven't personally had any people who asked about my sexuality, I have seen things online where people were thought to be gay/lesbian because they crossplay. I always believe that we shouldn't assume anything about anyone, especially those that we don't know well/at all.

I pretty much only crossplay, and I'm so straight that my friends even say I'm the straightest guy they know. Now if only I could find a girl who is fine with my crossplay, because hey, skirts and dresses are awesome, and female characters have great costumes!
I'm the Emperor of the Left Half of the universe, and I approved this message.

I also hit more conventions than most people do, so if you see me say hi. Chances are I'll be selling DVDs in the dealer room.

Maybe I crossplay because I'm straight lol. I like male characters more than female characters generally, and that is why I want to dress like them. It's a little complicated I guess. I can't seem to find the line between what I want to be and what I want to have.

Although anime and reality are two different things. In anime I find myself liking male characters much more than female ones. But in reality I like males and females equally. So maybe I'm actually bisexual.

Don't know. Either way I figure it doesn't matter. But it is funny how people assume you are gay if you dress in opposite gender stereotypes.

I'm here to ruin the party. I'm gay as balls.

It's not surprising that most "crossplayers" are heterosexual because most Western human beings in general identify as "heterosexual" to start with - so it's just statistics.

Im straight, and ive been crossdressing most of my life. I just like female clothes better than mens, and im not about to let a simple difference of gender stop me from cosplaying my favorite characters.

I am straight, but I crossplay for a lot of reasons..
I would love to be a guy. Crossplaying lets me experience that.
Female clothes are very very uncomfortable.
Guys are hot, so I dress up as them.
Most females suck in anime's.

Since I really can't pull of any guys except Naruto, though.. that will probably be the only crossplay I do.
Conventions attending:
Anime Conji '15
Ninja Con '15
Anime Expo '15
Pacific Media Expo '15
