Tales of Cosplay Thread
Since the old Tales of thread vanished, I thought I would start a new one since it seems like there are many out there that still need help with cosplays from the series (and my self actually). This thread will contain help from the Tales of series, which includes titles such as Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia, etc...
I am planning on cosplaying long-haired Luke and I'm having issues with severla things about the character. 1. Luke's Wig. I plan on styling the wig my self, but I have a few problems with it. a. What is the true color of his hair? b. Is there any wig websites that you recommend getting the wig from? 2. Luke's sword. I am not good at making props, but I actually want to attempt to make it since it doesn't seem too difficult. Any suggestions on how to make it? I'm not sure what materials to make it out of. 3. Luke's gloves. I've never made a successful pair of gloves before for cosplay, so this is going to be challenging. Does anyone have a tutorial online somewhere for his gloves or any short gloves in general? I think that's it for now. Thanks for the help in advance.

Good call on starting a new thread. =) I can't wait to see your Luke cosplay. <3
I know that there are patterns for making gloves... I actually have one *somewhere* but I haven't used it yet. If I can find it I'll tell you what it is and if it works. The sword... I guess you could make it with almost anything, depending on how heavy and durable you want it to be. Maybe carve it from the sturdy pink foam (forgot what it's called) or find some wood tools and saw it from wood, sanding it down to be the perfect shape.

I was thinking about cosplaying as Stahn Aileron from Tales of Destiny. He's a cool character after all. It'll be fun.

I will, I will, I WILL cosplay Meredy from Tales of Destiny 2 one of these days. And not that crappy little tunic, either - I want to make her fluffy dress from Celestia ^.^
As for Luke, let's see: 1) His hair looks like a mild red (not quite ripe tomato, if that makes sense) with the tips fading to a peachy color. The easiest way to get the color you want is to buy a white wig and dye the color yourself. Here's a great thread for dying with ink: http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=57484 Or you could resort to sharpies. In any case, Amphigory has some good wigs, although price is just as expensive as Cosworx. I prefer to Ebay my wigs, especially from Seconds-Please: http://stores.ebay.com/SECONDS-PLEAS...QQftidZ2QQtZkm This seller has some great, cheap wigs, as well: http://stores.ebay.com/Designer-Wigs...Q3amesstQQtZkm 2) You can either carve the sword out of pink insulation foam or wood, then seal with polyurethane (only sealer for wood), bondo, fiberglass, Wonderflex, etc. If you're lucky, you can find a cheap plastic prop blade and just make the hilt. http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=95725 Or, if you're cheap like me, try using cardboard! http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=76828 3) Gloves - here are the 3 best online tutorials: http://sew-ing.com/make/gloves.html http://www.glove.org/myfirstgloves.php http://www.stretchy.org/catsuit/extr...s/complex.html Since Luke's gloves only come up to his knuckles, you don't have to worry about sewing the fingers on. Just trace the pattern around your hand and end it at the part of your hand where the fingers stem from the palm. You can then add the bias tape/trim around the top of the glove. Same goes for the thumb, just make sure to make it a little roomy. Stretchy material like spandex, jersey and other knits, and lycra work best.

Also, all the advice you've given was rather helpful. I hope to get started on Luke within the next couple of weeks.

Seconds-Please is on my favorites list ^.^ I bought my Eirika and Feena wigs from her, and my newest yet-to-be-revealed cosplay. I did sew 2 wigs together for both Eirika and Feena, because they have such voluminous hair (the blue wig in that tutorial I wrote is Eirika's).
I have not bought from Designer Wigs, but I know some people who have and really like their products.

Nope, the cons I have planned are the following:
Youma, Ohayo, A & G Ohio, Tekkosho, ACen, AX (big possibility), Otakon and Ikasu Con for the following year. I may add a few more in, depending on fundage though.

Too bad you're not going to Sugoi, Kala, my friends and I are putting together a decent size Abyss group for the con (our Luke is doing short hair version, though.)
I've got my own wig problems too. I'm pretty much sure of everything EXCEPT the wigs for our Ion and Sync- wigs in that shade of green just aren't MADE, and I don't want to buy ones that are bright and saturated, so I've been digging around for a dark grey wig on cosworx that I can dye with the FW method. The Amanda in color 44 is what I've tentatively settled on, since they're BOTH getting hacked, caulked, and styled to hell anyway, but I'm a tad afraid that since it's a brown-grey, instead of a black-grey, it'll throw off the color >< Opinions? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Doushi_Ion.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Synch_pic3.jpg <--for the sake of reference XD I was going to say something about Luke's gloves, but Fire Lily beat me to it XD. They shouldn't be that bad. |

Cosworx is good. Someone pointed out which wig I can get for Stahn. But I'm going to work on it much much later.

I do so adore cosworx, and since at this point we're ordering six wigs, a couple wig heads, plus tons of bobby pins and wig caps, it's just better to order all at once and save on some shipping XD
Speaking of, for our short-haired luke, I think I was going to get the Linda S in Henna Red and style it shorter, if that helps any Kala. |

Oh boy, new Tales thread! *gets in on this, hoho*
Oh my, I've still got so much stuff to do. My friends need me to make them Dist and Tear costumes, and then I've got a few Jade versions to do after that. And I still haven't finished Moses. Eeeeek XD; |
