Cardboard Trench Knife Tutorial

people have been asking to make this Tutorial for trench knives from Naruto

matrials you'll need: cardboard , hotglue ,comicbacks (ceral box boardis a fair sub for backs) and paints

tools you'll need: glue gun, exacoe knives and paint brushs.

1) Using the above templets cut two of shape A and one of shape B
form comic backs

2) Agian using shape A cut out four pieces from cardboard

3) Hotglue togather the pieces of cardboard in to a pair of blocks

4) Cut way a wedge from the inner side of the blade on each block

5) Hotglue the layers of comicbacks and cardbaord blocks togather as seen here, just make sure the figer holes line up

6) Glue fill all of the flat edges inclueding inside edges of the figer holes
(see my katana tutorail for detials on filling if you don't already know what it is)

7) Again like the katana tutorail put on a glue edge

8) Paint it
(i prefar to use metallic acrlic craft paints)

For those not in the know, (and for improving the searchability of this thread) these are the "chakra knives" used by Asuma-sensei (and also Shikamaru) from Naruto.

Great tutorial as always. I might have to get ahold of some comic backs and see what I can do with some of your new techniques.

I cannot for the life of me get a hotglue gun anywhere! Is it at possible to sustitue a hot glue gunfor something else. Not pritstick or anything, but PVA or superglue?

Not really. For gluing cardboard together, other types might work. But in this case, the hot glue is also used to fill in the corrugation of the cardboard. I don't know what PVA is, but if you choose to use Superglue, you will need dozens of bottles of it to fill it all in... if it works at all. I really don't think that Superglue will dry in a solid block like Hot Glue does.

woot, just finished my first one, now i need to paint it, i dont think ill make another until i get some comic back because i had to trace most everything into the cardboard from a coke box

If you can get the hot glue sticks you can melt the tip on a candle flame. It might take a little longer than if you had a glue gun but it should work. You'll just have to be a little more careful since it might drip and also don't hold it over the flame for too long 'cause the glue will burn, give off an awful smell and turn black (and will also dry black instead of semi-transparent)

ive cut out all the pieces glued the 2 carboard twice

- 2 x 2 carboards with hotglue
- 2 A 1 B comic backs

? confused at step 4? help would be appreciated =S
