Need Help! Making a hakama for a Bleach cosplay.

So, I'm going as Rukia for SakuraCon and possibly Momo as well. But in that case, I'll need to make a hakama. I looked in the past three pages and none of them seemed to answer my question fully. I got how to iron the pants and some other tips, but that didn't help to much.

I'm wondering where to get a hakama pattern, what fabric to use, and if it's easier to buy it.

there is an online tutorial, the link is posted in the Bleach Cosplay thread, just search for it.
Thats what I used to make mine, and it worked fine.

I would suggest a medium to heavy weight cotton or blend, mine are made of twill.

You can get the folkwear hakama pattern:

It's a bit confusing at times, but it's a good pattern. There are also a few online patterns if you'd rather not spend the money.

I'd suggest cotton twill for the fabric, because it's awesome and it holds pleats REALLY well. There's also some fabric suggestions at the bottom of the folkwear pattern page.

This was what I used to make my last three pairs of hakama. (Look at the Kenshin in my Kamatari gallery if you'd like to see the results. ^^) I didn't (and don't) find them too hard to make as long as you aren't rushing through them too quickly. As long as you make sure you understand what you're doing before you sew, it works out nicely.

And the iron is your friend for those pleats, whether you make or buy the hakama. XD

You can also search google for "hakama pattern" and get a few hits.

Off the top of my head, I know of Sarcasm_hime's site (search her name), Anne Liese (search her name), the samurai matsuri page, a scan from a Japanese cosplay book hosted on janchan.com, and folkwear.com.
