Just a question...

Does anyone know how to make petticoats? Its just an extra skirt with lace basically, isn't it? I'm doing my first lolita-ish dress soon, and I'm sure I could make one, but I haven't worn something quite so... fluffy since I was five. I already did a search and most of the threads in here deal with buying petticoats, not making one. And I need an extremely full one too...

That looks a tad too much like a square dancing petticoat to me. Here's a tutorial I found: http://community.livejournal.com/sew_loli/116820.html The basic idea is a normal loli-shaped skirt with a few layers of gathered tulle for the most part.

I made a tutorial a while back with pictures. They're out of order in the album so you'll have to look at the filename to figure out the order. Sorry about that. This is how I make my petticoats, and they work pretty well.

I did something similar to jessio's tutorial, only I was lazy and used a half-slip as my base. Then I got six yards of tulle, folded it over until it was six yards of tulle that was six inches tall, and gathered that and sewed it. Repeat for another layer (I sewed this one on upside-down about two inches above the other one for a good solid poof) and finish with a circle of lighter tulle to keep it all in place. So...really it's not a whole lot like the tutorial. :S

when I wear my petticoat, I wear another half-slip underneath to cut down on the scratchiness.

I wish I had a good picture of this petticoat in action (it really puffs out nicely) but I don't... =<
