okay im trying to cosplay arrancarr gin... however im having some trouble figuring out the costume and perhaps what happens i should do. my mom helped me with my kimono top for my regular bleach outfit but she had a bit of trouble adjusting it and so i want to get it as close as possible because im a newbie and i dont want to confuse my mom.
so here's a reference picture: http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?i...jpegpsdne1.jpg so im thinking for the coat of using a type of cape pattern : http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5...s_coats&page=2 but i really dont know about the jacket thing since you can't see under there. i guess i can be creative but ack im so lost on altering patterns. i thought i was home safe with one of the original pictures that still had them in shinigami garb (damn)

I wouldn't do that, you need to find a coat pattern and alter it.
My favorite long coat pattern is a "trinity" pattern made by simpicity (I can't get the number since I'm not at home...) You just need a long coat pattern, and then you can alter the sleeves to be more bell like I would just look through the patten books and see if you can find something close, whatever you do you're going to have to alter it D: (sucks sometimes I kno)

Well, first of all, I would point out that Gin's outfit is not very similar to a cape design. It actually tapers in at the waist, which is where you are going to have the most difficulty.
Nearly everyone I've known who has made the outfit has put a zipper up the middle there as well. You can go with a rounded, dress like form (with a triangle cut out of the front) for the area from his waist down, or you can simply go with a straight design. So far I've seen both done adequetly. I would suggest you take a pattern closer to this http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5026.htm and modify it (this one would require it being longer) I wouldn't really suggest using that exact pattern, just one that's closer to that general form. |

http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4078.htm I used this, but you'll need to add a lining and make the sleeves much, much wider.
Mine's not very form-fitting, either. :/ I think that's more my fault than the pattern's, though. EDIT: There's also this: http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin...I=10007&page=5 which I believe has the collar Gin is actually supposed to have. You'd need to lengthen the rest of it, of course.

If you can find a pattern on sale with sleeves like these, it would be a great place to start. I believe this one's sleeves are a large rectangle, so once you have them made, I would start at your armpit and figure out how much you need to sew inward to narrow the top(shoulder) of the sleeve. ![]()
