Thanks tidus!
I've started buying fabric for her. Yay for fabric stores closing and getting fabric for pennies! Well, not pennies, but it might as well be. I got the light brown and dark brown, now I need to find white to match. I'll be buying a wig soon, too. Fun fun. Wish me luck!! After my Italy trip I'll be working my @$$ off to do these costumes. I'm so ready.

I would suggest actually, after looking at a lot of the images of her in daylight, and from being a strawberry blonde myself, that she is not -quite- strawberry...BUT! She is indeed very close. Get a wig in either a strawberry blonde or maybe a shade darker and (if you're alright with messing with wig dyes), use a very light application of either cotton candy pink or watermelon red (depending on a lighter or darker starting wig). Strawberry blonde wigs are pretty easy to find too, so big bonus on shopping.

As for style, Ena from Amphigory is close, needs some soft curls at the ends and straightening and hardening of the bangs, but should be fairly easy, I'd suggest color 27c. Tried to find one on cosworks..but the only contender is way too thick for her. For the 27c color I'd suggest repeating light light light washes of cotton candy dye, probably make them a little darker un the undersides of the wig so the top gets a nice, blonde highlight-y effect in your bangs. Would look great for photos.

Meanwhile I have to figure out how to make my haircolor match it without getting bright pink hair.

Ok, got fabric for the top, ordered a wig...I am so about to start this thing! Now, if I can figure out how to do her gun/sword thingie I'll be set. I'm awful at props.
Yay! I'm happy I'm about to start this.

Ok, I'm about to work on the next part of this costume, but I'm at a bit of a stand-still. Ok if you look at the first picture you'll see these tan straps and pockets on her vest. I bought a fabric a few weeks back for those parts, but now I think it's too dark (see 2nd picture). I only have one fabric store in the area and that is all that had closest to that tan color. Do you think it's too dark and would mess up the costume or do you think it'll do? I really have no other options unless someone can find a site online that sells a light-weight pleather-ish material in that exact shade. lol. Any help would be great! Thanks!!

I can see what you mean with the color... *also going to be Cosplaying Lightning at Fanime in two weeks*
Here's a clearer picture (the one you posted looks like it's been slightly lightened up if you ask me)

http://www.ff-xiii.net/images/scans/ffxiii002.jpg

Only thing that annoys me about that picture is her hair color. Her hair-- it changes in every single shot I see of her, I swear D:

Anyways-- I'd look for a different type if fabric. It really doesn't seem like pleather to me. The color's a little off but it seems fine.. Picture seems kind of funky on my computer screen though.

Also, here's a second shot of Lightning-- close up. It's a high quality shot and you can see clearly the fabric texture. (and her hair, lol)

Well, once my wig comes in I'll see what I can do with it. I got a blonde-ish colored wig and am going to color it a bit. I hope I do this right. The last thing I need is to mess it up and then I'm out $30.

Well, looks like I need to find some sort of knit material for her shirt. It's almost like a sweater. Should be fun.
Finding the colors for this vest is gonna kill me. Ugh. I guess I do need to look for a different fabric. Off to the store again! I hate having only one fabric store to work with. At least I can work on the rest of the costume and once I find the right fabric/color I'll be ready to finish.

Thanks for your help!!

I've been doing a lot of work on fabric choice lately for Lightning, and for her Turtleneck, honestly, I'm just gonna get a turtleneck at goodwill and dye it, knit is so hard to deal with for me ^^;;. As for the Camel colored jacket lining and pockets, I originally thought pleather, as I did for the white, but after finding only pleather that was toffee colored or -way- too yellow, and seeing just the right color in a synthetic suede garment weight (I REALLY should have bought it, I was still convinced it had to be pleather, I think different looking at FMV shots now), I think I'd suggest that more. I found mine in a Hancock fabrics, was about six dollars a yard, but so long as you don't do the full lining in it (I'm just doing the visible areas + about an inch and a half, Otakon=HOT) you should only need about a yard.

As for the fabric for the white, I opted for a mid-weight white denim, easier to clean, breathes a bit more, and since I can't tell what her vest is supposed to be made of (white shows no detail for me), I'm erring on the side of not baking in late July heat. Really helps that a local store had the denim on sale for 1.99 a yard.

Also, for you two Lightning ladies, what color do you think her skirt's main color is supposed to be? Sometimes it looks very green, others it's flat brown, any suggestions?

Ah! found the link in their online store I think:
http://www.hancockfabrics.com/category/3159.html

Tan is the color that looked right in person.

Thank you so much! I'm about to head out there (for the 3rd time this week). I've already hit my fabric limit for the month...yes, I give myself an allowance, but seeing as how I just spent $17 on the wrong color, I am hoping I can redeem myself with a better one.

And for her skirt...I'm going with brown. I found a fabric at the store yesterday. I may go ahead and get it now just in case they change things around on me.
I also found this really interesting brown with very very dark red tints in it. It's quite strange, but I really like it for her boots. Not quite accurate, but I loooove it!

Thanks again for your help! I really need to find some high-res screenshots to get a better look at the colors. This costume is gonna kill me! lol. Maybe I should start working on Saber and come back to Lightning later.
Take care.

Oh hah! I just noticed you're a Gerogia girl too, nifty! Totally off-tiopic but whatever! I found it cool. Which conventions you planning for your Lightning? Would be nifty to get some shots together.

I plan on having it done by Dragon*Con. I already have my costumes planned for AWA. We'll see! That'd be cool to meet up. Always looking for other FF cosplayers.

Oh, I went to Hancock Fabrics and bought that buttered suede in tan and it looks really dark. It may look strange against my top. I used a pleather polyesther for my top. I don't know. I may go with your white denim idea and make a new top, but I've already spent so much money on these fabrics. Ah wells. I may just have to deal with a bit darker brown for the vest. =(

For my wig, I too got a blonde-ish, but auburn kind of color. It's from Amphigory, the Tatiana Wig. What's cool about it is there's very slight pinkish highlights on the wig. It's not noticeable unless you look at it up close or know it's there but that completely made my day when I got it.

Her skirt is just a brown, no green or anything like that.

I can see you guys are in need some better pictures ^^''''
Here, I have TOO many to not share with you two (and anyone else going to be Lightning):

Yeaaaaah- went a little picture happy. If Square-Enix releases anymore pictures of Lightning, I'll be sure to post them. And once Fanime is over, I'll post pictures of myself as Lightning if that will help anyone.

Naxul: Thanks for the images. I, too, got the Titiana wig from Amphigory! What color did you get? I got 27.

Say, for the sweater piece under the vest...what on earth color is that? In some pics it looks like a pink color and in some it looks brown. I can't find any fabric that would match it.

I'm afraid I'm just going to have to deal with slightly off color. I only have one fabric store in the area and the next closest one is 2 hours away. Ugh. Much sadness. I couldn't always redo things later on when I find the right colors. It shouldn't be too horrible if some colors are slightly lighter/darker then they should be, right? I hate not being accurate, but I have to make due with what rescources I have.
Thansks. Off to work.

Cool- I got 27C actually xD.

As for the Sweater Vest thingy underneath, it's a brown. What I did was, I knitted the vest by hand and just added a zipper. Wasn't that hard.

Horray! Progress. I finally have something up of my Lightning vest. Please check my gallery. I have a few things almost done, just not sewn on yet so expect more pics throughout the week. I'm having major issues on the collar and am running out of scrap fabric to work on for practice. Any help?
Thanks! And if I can figure out how to make these gloves I should have them done by the weekend as well. Take care everyone.
