The Killer Queen
I'd like a few opinions from people here, because I'm not sure about this concept.
Now, people who know me well know that I very nearly worship Freddie Mercury as a god, and with that in mind I'd like to make an Aristo outfit centered around the Queen song, "Killer Queen". The song is about a prostitute, but the jangly piano work makes me think of a woman more like the "women of reputation" from the turn of the century. I was thinking a wine red velvet skirt gathered in the back, and a lower cut silk bodice with bared shoulders. I want to make it elegant, but still slightly suggestive. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

I absolutely love this idea!! *warm fuzzies* So far your outfit sounds very ero-loli, so maybe you should add some corset detail to the bodice. And definitely ornately-done hair to nail the Marie Antoinette aspect. XD
Sorry for the lack of help, but I've never done any Aristo-loli. But I wish you much luck and send you many many props!! |

I'd suggest starting by looking at the dresses of Queen Elizabeth I. Some of her stuff was amazing, and since Queen is from England, what better?

Unf.
Freddie Mercury is my idol as well, seriously. What a fabulous idea. You might want to even try the Killer Queen character design from the We Will Rock You musical to get some ideas. I just went over the song lyrics in my head and can't really think of any style ideas from it, aside from maybe something crazy with a dynamite-studded laser beam. XD; But that's sorta the opposite of what you're going for. |

Okay, I took everyone's advice ^^ and I think I'll add a bit of drapery detail to the front of the skirt, and switch out the original bodice for an Elizabethan style corset. I'll try to get a sketch up.

I don't know that this is strictly EGA or anything, but I still love the idea! If you want it to look turn of the century-- and I figure you're talking the 20th century, not 21st
, you might be better off with a Victorian-style corset than an Elizabethan one. Victoria was an English queen, too!I love bustles and corsets, so I'm all over those ideas. Another place you may want to glean a little inspiration from is the Moulin Rouge "Lady Marmalade" video-- they were sort of wearing that style with a slightly modern edge. Another place to consider looking is Arsenic Fashions. They have lots of the steampunk/goth/cyber styles on their site, and it might give you an idea or two. For example, take a look at their Hellebore skirt. You could add a studded or spiked choker, exaggerated eye makeup, definitely outrageous hair and an amazing hat. I think you could get away with adding some bursts of bright color into your makeup and as accents on your costume. --Penny

Hehe, I love you for mentioning hats ^_^ I collect hats. I have one that makes me look like Sonic the Hedgehog.
That Hellebore skirt is just wow. It would look great with that "Lolita" overbust corset they've got. |
