There sure aren't a lot of pics of Vanessa out there, though! ^^; From what I can tell, her dress is two shades of a slate/gray purple? I think?
Coming from this site where I get most of my Disney references from http://magicalscreencaps.com/caps.php this was the best comparison shot I could find: http://magicalscreencaps.com/images/...ermaid_778.jpg
I've also seen it as a dark blue in other illustrations. I guess in the end just make sure it's darker than the skirt.

However, I do think they need to be more specific on what is or isn't allowed. Disney character look-a-likes are given, but what specifically makes it so that she wasn't allowed but someone wearing lolita would be?

But really, why wear a huge poofy dress to the park in the first place? I'd rather wear jeans with a gaudy tiara and any other ridiculously glittery accessories and actually be able to move around haha...

word on the streets is that lolita is a fashion, not a costume. i saw a huge blowup a girl had because D-land wouldn't let her into the parks in her lolita getup on her birthday, even though she'd been admitted before in lolita, because the managers of the day couldn't understand that it's a fashion, not a costume. personally, if it's outside the 'norm,' i'd say you're in costume [and i'm sure i'll catch hell for that].

when i was working a few months ago, a girl got into MK in an Alice dress. they said she looked the part, talked the part. and then took pictures with and signed autographs for guests who couldn't tell the difference. i never heard what became of that, though...

tl;dr no costumes ovr 12yo. lolita is a fashion. girl in Alice dress steals the show

I dunno Aaron, our parks have gotten pretty slack over here. I've seen tons of people over 12 in WDW wearing the costumes, especially coming to CRT. But we're also a lot bigger than that here.

Yep, that's where I go for all my Disney refs too! It looks like a grayish purple/indigo to me... There are also the shots along the shore where she has the billowing cape as well, but since it's so dark, it's hard to get a grasp on color. Those are good for fullbody references though!

I think the seashell necklace is going to be downright necessary. Maybe I'll even have time to rig it up so it'll glow... ^^

myeh. rules are that they're not supposed to. but i can see it happening at WDW because it's "Disney." WDW is the place that people think of when they hear the D word, and that's the place where all their dreams are supposed to come true. so why shouldn't some 36 year old woman be able to wear her princess dress to the parks if it's her dream?
i find it difficult to understand why an adult dream would be to dress up to go to Disney anyway. maybe it's just because i'm a dude.

honestly I think its kinda stupid I mean like you should be able to dress how you want as long as it isnt directly like a disney character

I'm siding with Disney on this one...kids don't understand character costumes, they just see princess. I was dressed like this:

http://www.blacklilygallery.com/gall.../Bday09-45.jpg

and was asked by kids (including the one in the picture) if I was Cinderella. I had a pink/black getup, parasol, sunglasses and RED HAIR! And if I wear purple and green, forget about it, they think I'm Ariel...even if it's just green pants and a purple top. Just remember that kids don't understand the concept of costumes corresponding to characters like we do...they just see pretty and cute clothes and sometimes color. There's too much liability in people looking like staff members...and as much as I wish I could go in costume every day, I am totally on their side about stopping people wearing anything that could be seen as a costume.

And on a costume-related note, I'm working on Rosetta. I'm SUPER proud of the skirt so far...and I HAVE to finish the wings today because my friend is leaving and I need him to help me with the power-tool aspect of the wings =3 So pictures soon...but not until next week =P

@ blueassassin547: Oooooohhh... That makes sense. I agree, though, if it's not the norm and would draw so much attention, I'd consider it a costume, too.

It's like NecroticNymph says - kids see colorful clothing or dresses and tiaras and automatically think "princess." By preventing adults from wearing princessy attire, it keeps kids safe from potential predators and makes sure there's only Disney-approved princesses acting in an approved way.

Costume-wise for me... I'm looking to find a good replacement wig for my Briar Rose costume. The one I have works in a pinch, but it's definitely seen better days haha...

I'm on Disney's side too xD Only because It rubs me the wrong way when girls act like crazy like the the stepsisters when they are dressed as Disney XD
Also with the rules, we get to be creative and make outfits inspired by them 8D
Like Yainawai's Ariel outfit she always wears XP

Now I'm having inner drama .-.
I don't want to finish my Ariel gown Dx Part of me wants to remake my Belle gown but my Ariel fabrics are so pretty to go to waste T^T

Yes! I myself would like to do Vanessa (at some point in the future lol). Personally, I always saw it as a powder blue/muted powder blue for the skirt and almost a navy for the top, but after seein those screen shots I think you're right about the purple? If it were me I would go with blues, I think the darker and muted colors would really make the gold of the her shell just pop out even more.

Costume wise for me: Got a nice pastel aqua fabric for Giselle's curtain dress. Its so simple I think I'm going to try my hand at drafting a pattern myself I won't need it until later so I'll have plenty of time to work on it. Also working on the print designs in photoshop, can't wait to cut all off them out ><.

@Sam- That's insane. Jill wore a Cinderella-inspired outfit and she didn't get mistaken once. What did you tell the kids?

And I do have agree on kids just seeing "PRINCESS!" and not the details. When I wore Anastasia to MNSSH, I was called Belle(understandable) and Mulan(WTF?!).

Ladies and Gentlemen(?):

Thanks for all the help with my post. I really appreciated it. However I found the most perfect outfit to wear for Tiana! It's easy and recognizable. Her second wedding dress.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Especially her tiara)

Please and thank you!

Mulan??? LOL. My Anastasia got called Giselle (it had just come out) by a little girl, and Sleeping Beauty. It was a sweet old man who guessed that, so I sang Once Upon a Dream and danced with him. He was rather good at the box step. ^_^

I get called a princess at the grocery store by kids every so often, but that's just how I like to dress. I own lots of tops with bell sleeves and stuff, and I dress up on Sunday. They know I'm not a Disney princess though. Whenever I'm in Disney Land, I'm wearing jeans. That'll keep you safe!
