if you don't want your bone channels showing, use some twill tape, and make the casings like that on the coutil layer. That way you have the bone channels but you won't see them in the casa/organsa layer. I do it all the time with both bodices and corsets worn on as an outer layer.

Tomorrow I am going hunting for navy blue velvet, hopefully one of the uncountably numerous fabric stores in my town will have some, it's just a matter of finding them.
Furiephoenix you're tattoo looks very good. If I were brave and willing to go through pain I would get myself a Black Rabbit of Inle somewhere, but alas I am a coward who dislikes even the idea of pain.

So if I have the funds (Ł50) I'll be doing Simba at october's expo for the one day i go. I figured if I dont wanna re wear Ariel (and as stupid as this sounds.. but after the comments im actually scared to cosplay her now.....) in October I'll have a comfortable costume to wear that I can just hide away in and not feel self conscious. So can you guys help me find a short (maybe like.. mid length or something?) for cub Simba? I'm gonna get Simba done even if I dont do expo as it will be a great backup costume and something i can wear around the house if im feeling low...

My friend just sent me the concept drawing for it.... omg so cute *works out when she can pay for it so it can be made*

That is too cute!

elycium i decided to just leave it so you can see the channels... i decided it didnt take away anything visually with the channels there, thanks though, i use that method for ones not on the seams

@ Kiggi: Hang in there!!! You will get through it!!

@ Suzie Blue: I second Benihime's post. I have never tried them before but I know Dharma Trading has some dyes like that. They have a bunch of instructions on which fabrics they work for and how well.

@ FuriePhoenix: Wow that is so cute!! I can't wait to see it finished!!

@ Elycium: I have done a few wigs like that before. I highly recommend looking at Kukkii-san's tutorial for that. She explains it very simply and with lots of helpful tips. She is also really friendly and will probably answer any questions you have.
Here is her updo tutorial: http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1856065/
And here is her working on the foamcore for her Fran wig: http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1096894/
I hope that helps!

Mini Rapunzel Update: I am halfway finished with the last panel on the skirt and then it will be the home stretch for me!!

I'm working on a Dr. Doofenshmirtz cosplay. All I need is a white lab coat, and have everything else including a Perry the Platypus pillow.

thanks guys! I had a feeling you'd all like the work! Im hoping to get it finished at the end of August things have calmed down and i'll have the money.... though I seriously want it finished before hand loool.

Also, no cosplay news... I'm feeling full of withdrawal symptoms even though my next project will be a walkable parks inspired Ariel tail. Though like my tattoo... not sure when i'll have the funds to get it done even though it needs to be done for the middle of september lol eek!

So I was looking at stuff to help a friend with a Final Fantasy costume and I came across this. It's a different way to do gathers and considering how often Disney dresses call for it I thought I'd share. Haven't had the chance to try it out myself (my machine is at a friend's house right now) but when I get it back you best your pixie dust I'm going to try it.

So, despite the numerous fabric stores in my town, none have navy blue velvet. So I was looking for an online store. I'm making the bodice of my Snow White dress out of it (as I'm taking an extreme amount of 'inspiration' from SuzieBlue.
I have found this one here, and as my knowledge is well and truly non-existent I was wondering if I could get anyone's opinion.
This is what I've found http://www.wrappedinfabricaustralia....e-by-Moda.html
Do you think this will be okay?

Sharnie-- have you looked at home-decor fabrics for velvet? That's what I used for my Snow White bodice and it worked GREAT! It was heavy, but I boned the bodice anyway, so the lack of flexibility wasn't an issue. I had bought the fabric for a theatre costume and cut my bodice from the leftover fabric. http://www.cosplay.com/costume/344884/

I'm not sure how to do boning - is it very difficult?

sharnie, no it's not hard at all, I bone almost all my bodices the easiest way is to use the seam allowence as the channel. You will iron seams to one side, and top stitch about 3/8 in over from seam making sure it catches the seam allowence. This makes a pocket, and you just slide bones in (width depends on what you're using as bones, that is my measuerment for steel ones) they make your bodice look so much better imo

Sharnie ~ Yeah boning isn't that hard at all. My Christmas and regular belle gowns are both boned and my Ariel is going to be as well. And if you want boning that give you structure as well as support without being really uncomfortable I'd suggest spiral steel boning. It's what I used in my yellow Belle ballgown. Amazing stuff.

If you don't know what it is I made a little video explaining it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqETm18RsVU
