Rurouni Kenshin.BS factor to the max? *SPOILERS AHEAD!*
Firstly,I'd like to say that RK is one of the top samurai-related animes out there,it would probably be the best, except for the major,MAJOR discrepancies in it:
Kenshin vs. Onibawanshuu ===================== The bad guy with the Gattling gun is quick enough to shoot a highly trained ninja running at top speed, has quick enough reflexes to shoot a small ninja jumping off another ninja's back before he can flick off his darts, and can't land one shot at a samurai swordsman running straight at him? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight ..............Saitou vs. Shishio =============== Saitou charges at Shishio using the gatotsu with both his legs having been stabbed by a spear, manages to break through thick, bolted wooden doors, hits Shishio, who is saved by his "Iron Bandanna"........... Q:Why wasn't Shishio's neck broken? Q:Why wasn't Shishio's brain liquifed?! Q:Why does Shishio have instant recovery?! Kenshin vs. Shishio =============== SSo:"I'm going to give you a spectacular death.......GUREN KAINA!!!" *Kenshin gets blowed up* Q:Ne,Shishio,if you've "soaked your glove in gunpowder",and use your sword's friction to blow it up,why do you still have your hand? And these are examples from the most major scenes in the series. The fact that they simply destroyed Enishi (the BEST rk villian EVER,imo) really.....just rubs me the wrong way! ![]() The series itself was just dragged on,and on,and on,and on.....The ending arc to the series was terrible, and if weren't for Kenshin's death in the ova......I dread to think what would have ensued *thinks about getting the boxset for Rurouni Kenshin series 112321 for the secret hidden episode 6796878970123* Last edited by TheLoneWolf : 04-19-2003 at 11:42 PM. |

Lemme put it this way:
Kenshin twisted reality. Most anime series do too,but they provide a proper explanation for it,with the heroes actually being human.Take cowboy bebop or Trigun, for example. When the hero gets thrown off a building/takes a shot,he spends the next episode running, recovering,or whatever. He does not execute the move of ultimate space-warping death with a broken arm. And oh yeah, typical rk fight.Kenshin: You,Kaoru, the accomplished Kendo master, you and the kid deals with scrubs A,B,and C,while me and Sano deal with the real fighters. Which is why I'd have to say my favourite character in the series would be Sanosuke. Why? because when he got stabbed through the shoulder, with a swordcane,he has it bandaged up for the next couple of episodes. When the "hero's" shoulder gets impaled in the next episode, with a real sword,it's perfectly healed in the following episode. LOL i gotta agree with you on Sano being the best, but... um... anime is actually SUPPOSED to twist reality most of the time... like no one can REALLY swordfight like that... also, what would be the fun if it were all straight from "reality"... would you like to see an anime Real World or an anime Joe Millionaire? (well those aren't really reality or whatever... bad examples... lol... the only things i could think of...) and in Trigun... Vash isn't exactly human... so... you can't use that as an example...

well its an anime and i think sano recovers cuz he doesnt have that much experience as kenshin, saitou, aoshi.. etc. they have been through many fights. sano tries to be strong, but throughout the series he learns from his fights. and he couldnt hit kenshin cuz he has " god like" speed. .. and shishio is strong that why his neck didnt break. and for the oav it was the directors view on how kenshin should've ended. the real ending would be in the manga and watsuki said kenshin should deserve a happy ending for what he has gone through.

It's not real. It's fiction. It's a-n-i-m-e.

Well, right from the start of the series, you have people pulling off totally unrealistic things. So right off the bat, an unrealistic tone is established. Yeah, the things you mentioned didn't make sense, but I don't think they were out of line with the series' general tone. They make sense within the "reality" defined by the show which is basically a reality where super-skilled swordsmen pull off amazing feats.
Now, if on an episode of Friends, Ross soaked his glove in gunpowder, grabbed Monica, and ignited the gunpower with his sword, or taught her the Hiten Mitsurugi or something, that would be totally out of place. Highly entertaining and a welcome change from what usually happens in that silly show, but totally out of place. In Kenshin, though... there's just SO MUCH unrealistic stuff going on that I cannot believe you're singling out certain things... haha. |
