What about every Narutard skit. Would that be overkill?

Just the narutards that think Believe It! is a good punchline after almost two years of Naruto in english (to which he barely says it once per episode anymore). Then again, narutards tend to think the stupidest jokes are funny, no matter how old they are.

Or those who think "LOLZ SASUKE AND NARUTO R GHEY" is a great punchline. For crying out loud - they could at least shake it up and make some minor characters gay for a change. Not that I suspect those skits would be much better...

ANY over-cosplayed series is going to be overdone in the masquerade unless they come up with a truly original idea or a truly amazing costume.

Me and my friend are doing kakuzu and hidan from naruto (people rarly cosplay them) but were leaning toward the pairing souly because I hug him alot but I'm scared people will think I'm a narutard.
but yeah the yaoi and dance offs are not so good. There was one skits at fanime that were good and it was the ouran host club and kyo (fruits basket) with "I wanna take you to a gay bar" and that was good.

Though, I have not found many Prince of Tennis skits, the ones that I have seen are all doing song and dance from the TeniPuri Musicals. I'm mean, I enjoy seeing the work people put in to recreate the song/dance, but I would just like to see someone try to make up an actual skit and not a dance.
Dance-offs and sing-offs are overkill. Same with the Avenue Q songs. Well, two of the Avenue Q songs. "If You Were Gay" and "Internet is for Porn". That's my opinion. Please don't snap at it. I realize that there are some well-done dance/sing-offs, but they are just getting to be too much. But, of course, I've never actually been to a convention. What I learn comes from the internet. This site and youtube.

I think one of the things about overdone skits is that it might have more to do with the audience members than the performers.
I only go to three cons a year, so I see, on average, about 100 skits a year. I don't look up skits on youtube. Aside from some yaoi themes and several sailormoon and naruto skits, the 'problem' of overdone skits doesn't really apply to me. This year at AMA was the first Avenue Q skit I've ever seen ^_^ and it was fantastic ^_^ Am I in the minority? Is it partly the audience members attempting to see and critique as many skits as possible that makes skits seem overdone? Don't get me wrong, I've seen terrible skits, but it wasn't because they were 'overdone'.

And "The Internet Is For Porn" has become the latest beaten to death song in masquerades as well.

Crossovers skits need a some type of story. They can't all be "Woah! Why is Edward Elric with a bunch of Bleach guys?!"
Crossovers can be done, but they are very hard. I did one at No Brand Con this last April. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZgMnVqYPDU

XP I wanted to post in this thread but almost all of my thoughts had already been stated by someone else. I think it's wonderful that everybody wants to go on stage and do a skit... but sadly, many of these people don't seem to know the first thing about acting.
I will admit that cosplay skits are very much different from theater acting or anything of the sort... but I still think that certain things (such as blocking and timing) are quite important. With that said... I'm tired of Kingdom Hearts dance offs. I'm tired of pointless Yaoi. I'm tired of Yuna in general. XP I know I'm swatting the dead fly when I say this, but I think almost anything could be made original... it just takes effort, thought, and a little bit of know-how.

Any 300 mock-ups. It was funny watching D-yikes (South park ep) after 300 and another on a show, but seeing it in abundance for skits is just getting to a point where it's bland. There's also a rule in comedy that I learned in Theatre this year: A joke is only funny twice, repeated once more and it loses its effect on the audience.
And, as we all know, the overdone Yaoi pairings (Mainly KH II and Naruto ones) It's pointless to watch the same 2 characters kiss & hug to get all of the 12-13 year old girls' attention and favor so that you look good. By now, you should know us big kids have the upper hand here as we tend to populate with the majority, so that's lost a grip on us. While we like our Yaoi, I think the rest speaks for itself. Have fun with your screeching little girls. And word up Teranell to us Theatre geeks! xD ------- Another thing I might add: The thing about dancing skits, well, it's generally a good idea and I can see through cosplayer's struggling on-stage of what they're trying to do, but for God's sake, if you can't dance for your life then don't dance at all. No seriously, if you can't dance with a gun pointed to you, don't do it at all. I was forced to see the cosplay competition at Akon 18 this year. First off, the acclaimed para para champions that started off the competition. Quite honestly, with most dancing skits out there, you can get a quadriplegic to dance and it'd be 150% better, but knowing they can't move but their heads, I'm sure you get what I mean. Anywho, I'm not going to point fingers here, but dear god, in that painful 2 hours, most of the dancing skits, I was gripping my chair for dear hope to last through it. I'm dead serious, if you can't dance or your group is failing miserably, don't dance at all. I feel sorry for the judges who have to do this so often, because they sit through people dancing off-sync, tripping, loss of coordination, forgetting the moves, losing positions, it just happens so frequently to the point where I can't help but think people aren't sober when they do these kinds of things or they think it's funny to try it on purpose. And I think the Link song is perfect for cosplay competition dances, but you have to be creative with it and have some nice cosplays to accommodate with it. But of course, if you put something pointless with running around in circles and waving a sword around, of course it's killed. Sorry if it's a bit long and critical, but if you wanna try at these things you either have to master it or just drop it. Remember with these competitions they're late at night so people are tired, cranky, and buzzed out, so they don't wanna sit through the most over exaggerated sloppy stuff. Practice makes perfect, and you have to look at your skit from all angles of the audience, ALL OF THEM. Sure things can be overdone, but you can always get creative with them instead of "The same old crap" Last edited by Honey Usagi-chi : 07-07-2007 at 05:02 AM. |

I'm simply tired of the bad swordfight skits, especially KH ones.
Also, I hate having to sit through a skit with bad audio. All the dialogue is just buzzing and puffing over some crackly music, and I can't understand a word of it. I have to sit there for three minutes watching characters from series I don't recognize make broad arm movements to dialogue I don't understand. That has to be more painful and pointless than even the worst dance number I can think of.
