Question Devil May Cry weapons - Guns and Sword!

Ok ... I have some questions about the guns first; Ebony and Ivory 8D

First of all. Anyone have approximate measurements for them? I get the feeling they're larger than your average handgun would be from reading the manga and novel and looking at some pictures. I've found a few nice ref pics but I was just wondering if there were maybe some "official" measuremnents out there someplace.

Secondly. Any ideas or tips on making them?

Ideas I have...

Make the basic shapes out of something like foam board or wood. Most likely I'd try to use wood. Just block shapes, attatched in an L shape. Then build up from that with various materials, whatever looks good ... paper, tape, maybe Sculpy clay or something similar? Then paint the whole thing the appropriate colors and use an acrylic sealer.

I also have a whole bunch of plexiglass. I could possibly use this for the basic shape, not sure.

As for the sword ... I'd really like to use the plexiglass to make it. But can plexiglass be cut in curves? How? With what? The piece I have to use for the sword is tall enough but is just a flat, rectangular piece. And then if I can get it cut, what's the easiest way to attatch the pieces to each other? I'd like to make the sword three-dimesional with space inbetween the two pieces.

The reason for this? I want to glue magnets inside of it. Yup, magnets. Matching magnets will go one the inside of the harness and/or coat. So that HOPEFULLY I'll be able to attach the sword to my back and carry it around. XD Is this a good way to go about that, or is there a better one?

Also ... if I can make the sword from plexiglass, anyone have suggestions for the hilt? I was thinking (again) a base of something - wood or foam - and then Sculpy clay for the carved details.. But then how to attach it to the blade part? XD I'll post some pictures of the guns and sword below ...

Well, there's an official Resin kit for the guns by Poseidon. I think it was nearing $200 per gun >.>;;; I think I have a site with that and it may have the measurements. I'll let you know ^_^

Secondly... Unless the sword is SUPER amazingly light, I don't think there's any amount of (non electro-)magnets that'll hold Rebellion to your back >.>;;; The guns, yes. I've seen it done. Just not the sword.

Got it!
Oh dang O_o

Apparently Ebony's 295 mm (Roughly 11.6 inches) and Ivory's 290 mm (about 11.4 inches).

Scroll down for some really nice detail shots ^_^

The original resin cast models from Poseidon have been discontinued a looong time ago. And any sets of them I've seen have gone for $200-600 a pair. Cheapest way to make them is to modify a pair of 45 long airsoft guns. I have two here that I'm taking apart to use as a base for my resin cast E&I as well as Luce and Ombra.

Also, I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say there's no way to use a magnet to hold it to your back. Really? Have you tested this? Are you going to tell me that a 100lb pull magnet built into 15-20lb foam and fiberglass sword isn't going to hold to a piece of metal on a backstrap?

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-pc-Heavy-Duty-...QQcmdZViewItem

I see no reason why you couldn't use a 1/8 thick steel sheet, and a magnet to attach the sword to your back somehow, I'd imagine you'd be able to get it to stick with 1/4" of stuff (pleather, fiberglass, paint, etc) between the magnet and the metal. Try it. Buy a magnet and find out what you can do with it.

I don't know how I would make them, but this site has some excellent pictures and even identifies the guns and their modifications. This might be helpful if you choose to modify airsoft guns

Hope this helps =]

Good luck!

Oh awesome! Thanks guys. Even though there's no way I could afford to buy some of those, it's nice to have the exact measurements for them. Though I WISH I could get hold of the resin models ...

As for magnets holding the sword, yea, I was going to test on some other things before I tried it. Another idea I had was to conceal some wires sticking out of the back of the coat that I could sort of "hook" the swod to on my back. Possibly with another down below to steady and keep it at an angle. I'm not sure how good that would end up looking though ...

Ok. Any suggestions on which TYPE of gun is closest to Ebony and Ivory? Such as ... Eagle, Colt 45 ... etc...

And what sort of paint would "stick" to the materials the guns are made out of? Acrylic with a sealer over the top?

Hello! I am in the process of making the Ebony and Ivory? When do you need them buy (not to push you into buying mine) Because you can easily make them from Foam board. I've made the Jackal and Joshua and they're about the same except different in shape and details. Here's my J&J
http://images.cosplay.com/photos/23/2347019.jpg

I am about...1/3 the way done on them guns and IF you like the way they look I can provide an easy tutorial for you to help you on this DMC journey ;]. As far as the sword I too would use FC. BUT I haven't ventured into his sword since I'm having 738462 commissions come my way this month ahah. BUT If I have the spare time I can make it in 2-3 days and also provide you that tutorial :].
So if so just drop me a line and I will definitely help. ^_^ Goodluck.

I made my guns following what the guy in this blog did here:
http://mydumbprojects.blogspot.com/2...4_archive.html

For my Rebellion, I started off with a sheet of half inch pine for the sword. Sharpened it and then used a wooden closet pole for the handle and little arm like stubs, then shaped them with a router. All the hilt stuff, I used paperclay. Around the skull and ribs, I glued a bunch of scrap pieces of wood onto the area first before laying down the paperclay. In the end, the thing weighs less than 3 pounds.

I never bothered with magnets. I saw some pictures of one cosplayer dressed as Dante and he just made some kind of backpack like thing to hold his sword. That's what I did with mine.
