Tutorial: How To Make A D.Gray-Man Emblem!

This is the lazy-man's way to making the emblem that is seen on most of the Excorcists' uniforms on the chest flap =]

Props to Bubydub for the whole brilliant idea of using foam in the first place - all I did was make the pattern and add an extra layer to the emblem to make it a little more 3D. ^^

You'll need
1. Craft Glue and/or hot glue gun
2. Craft foam (1mm thickness, preferably white)
3. Silver spraypaint
4. Scissors
5. Permanent marker
6. Safety pin/some sort of pin

The instructions are included on the printable sheet I've made with the pattern that you cut out to use as a stencil
[Click For Printable Sheet]

[Click for HUGE Emblem Reference Picture]

I've done all the steps except I skipped the spraypaint steps (no spraypaint at the moment and I wanted to test what it looked like first). Keep in mind this does not have silver spraypaint yet
[Click for my results so far]

[Click for Bubydub's Results - One less layer than my version]

Hope I helped any budding D.Gray-Man cosplayers! I find foam is a little bit better for those with a tight budget and is less dangerous than the metal ones (think pointy metal + chest + bend over = pain) but looks more realistic than the ones which are spraypainted directly onto the uniform. xD

Happy cosplaying!

[Sorry for the lack of images in the post - cosplay.com seems to change all my images to links O_o]

that's awesome! looks really good! I plan on a d.gray man costume in the near future, so this will be useful if i don't want to spend a ton of money making it out of metal :-)

I'm glad you like it xD Metal looks more authentic in a sense, but when i was reading the manga I noticed that the emblem actually seemed to move and bend with the clothing @_@ maybe it's like embroidered on or something..

Which would be odd....as Allen said the cross on his jacket was made out of pure silver......

Oh, and thanks, I'll be using this for my General Sokaro Winters badge...of course being a General, I'll have to replace the silver paint with gold paint.

^^^
I thought he said the 'trimmings' or something, and by that, the buttons?
I think the emblem would look best in silver metal, but I too have noticed that it seems flexible, and bens w/the movement -_-; But then again, D.Gray-man has so many inconsistencies, I wouldn't dwell over it!

Thanks for the nice tutorial I'll be cosplaying Kanda soon, and am borrowing my friend's buttons and cross, but when I find the time & will I'll def. try this!

Hmm....it seems, that your "printable" version of the tutorial is too big to be printed. I try to print it, but all that prints is the instructions...

Ah, I print mine from photoshop.

It's at around 200-300 DPI which is why it's massive if you don't use a program that recognises the DPI. You can save the image and print it with the Printing Wizard (right click -> print) and choose Full Page Fax to overcome the size problem

Elanems: Yay for inconsistancies! =P When I was watching the anime their emblems are pointy for every part of the "cross" O_O? Instead of the three-pronged ends...I was so confused. I kind of gave up and was like I'll just do the manga version XP;;

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be metal for the emblem but...I'm too poor XD;; Cheap way out every time...making boot covers instead of buying boots ;_;

I've attached my 2 templates of the Exorcist Brooch. The manga one (based on yours Angelique-Chan and the metal one from China) and the 3rd Uniform patch design.

Awesome Tutorial! I've been wondering how to make the cross for a while once I get around to making the coat (since I'm starting with his casual), so this will help a lot, I'll probably get to work on it as soon as I get the supplies

You are a life saver I needed the 3rd uniform brooch. What kind of materials should I use? Should I just stick to the craft foam?

Craft foam is perfect for this and silver fabric paint.

I just finished mine before Anime North last weekend.

I hate to drag up older threads, but since your reference seems to be gone, I did a rendering of the cross for reference awhile back, and well, sharing it seems better than not having it for people to use, ya' know?

http://the-horrible-sock.deviantart....ross-117923836

(Jeez, Ani, I went to all this trouble to make a template for the patches and I find you'd already made one. Though, looking at the date, I don't think you had yours up when I did mine.)
So much for my claimage on the making and selling of the 3rd Arc patches...Seems like the designs already out for free usage.
