Crossplay costume VS Crossdressing costume

Besides the obvious just what is the difference between crossplay and crossdressing? I am a guy and I love to put on a costume (womans clothing) including make up and wig, ect. and spend my evening or spare time as a woman.

Erm.. o.o; I would think that it would be like asking "What's the difference between cosplaying and wearing regular clothes?"

If you want to know if something is crossplay or not, do this simple test. If the member of the sex you're emulating would be considered to be cosplaying by wearing the clothes, then it would be crossplay. ^^

I.E: If something isn't cosplay, it isn't crossplay. Crossplay is a subdivision of cosplay.

Yes, it WAS asked a while ago. Oh well.... seems like a fairly easy differentiation to me.

Crossplaying = cosplay where the biological gender of the character is different from one's own. That means: wearing a costume as a character of a different gender. Example: My daughter crossplays as Kenshin. The term is a subset of "cosplay".

Crossdressing = wearing clothes that are appropriate to "the other (biological) gender". (Crossdressing is a more generalized term, and not always related to cosplay, although one can certainly consider crossdressing clothes to be a costume.)

One can of course be crossplaying and crossdressing at the same time. Example again: My daughter cosplays / crossplays as Kenshin. However, when she cosplays as Nuriko, she is crossplaying but NOT crossdressing - Nuriko is a guy who wears women's clothes. (HE's the crossdresser. ^^)

Some of you spend way to much time here. Anything over a long enough period of time is bound to get asked again or in a simular fashion.

Thousands of posts, come on. Sheesh!

I apologize for being new here. I must sound rediculously stupid to you senior cosplayers/crossplayers who have heard it and know it all.

No, and that's why I answered you.
And I certainly haven't "heard it or know it all". Relax.

There ought to be a way to have older threads easier to find (ie: a "subject search"), instead of having to find where they are hiding somewhere down on the second, third, etc. page of each forum's threads.

And another problem looking for older threads is that sometimes thread titles are misleading. This one is quite clear, but I don't know if the older thread was (and I'm too lazy to page through the older threads to check right now. ~__^)

> ie: a "subject search"

Click on "search" at the top of the page, then enter keywords. It will not only search the title but every single post for said keywords and highlight them in the threads.

It's easy to avoid repetitions by doing a bit of searching first. ^_^

But, if one of the female gender were to crossplay a crossdressing male, what would that be considered? o_o

Actually, TammyKitten, I was pretty sure the question was asked in a thread you were in, hence I didn't give much of an answer. I wouldn't normally respond that way; excuse me.

otome ~ It's still "crossplay". Not many people care to go into the details of what's crossplay or not, as you can tell from Koumori's answer. The purpose of this Crossplay forum is to help with those that need help with achieveing the other gender look, or something of the sort. Yeah.

I'm hoping what I type is coherent. I haven't slept and my mind is all boggly.

If you actually read my post (a few above yours), I mentioned my daughter cosplaying as Nuriko.

That makes her a crossplayer as well as a cosplayer (crossplay is a subset.) However, she is NOT crossdressing when cosplaying Nuriko, because she is wearing "girl clothes".

Nuriko is the crossdresser in that case, my kid is not, since she really is a girl.

Thank you both for your posts, you know who you are. I am just a guy I guess looking to find himself/herself and others like myself.

Do the woman crossplayers greatly outnumber the men here?
