This summer I'm going to my first anime con and I want to cosplay as Inuyasha. The problem is I totally suck at mmaking stuff. I'm going to try and get someone to make the clothes, but the problem is the Tetsusaiga. Help!!! Any ideas at all are appreciated...

Monoyashajla made one. Her's looked wicked. Here's the pics. And she used insulation foam to construct it.

Hehe....thank you ^-^ I'm glad fellow cosplayers are useing my Tetsusaiga as a reference Yeah...they are made from Owens cornering foam, I carved it out and painted gesso over after sanding. The final step was useing Fiberglass apoxy to harden the sword, I used like 4 layers on each side. o^-^o

Well, we don't just put our hard work up on e-bay, plus I don't have anougher sword to sell. I do commissions, so I make a weapon if a fellow cosplayer wishes to purchase it off of me.

If you want a more in-depth tutorial about making the sword using her method, I've had one on my forums for the past 6 months or so. I'm redoing my own Testsusaiga right now, so it's kind of in-progress at this point but it has some step-by-step instructions you may find useful.

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions ^^

I just used cloth. I actually did this over the holiday weekend. Although the melted the foam a little more than I thought it would, so I have to make up for it with the finish coat of bondo to build the shape back up. I think that if i would have used a little less epoxy or had something underneath the cloth itself before fiberglassing it would not have eaten away as much foam as it did. The tutorial has some pics of how it came out if you're interested in looking.

You did a good job.

I hope I can pull off something that good. Is it possible to make a fiberglass sword the size of a master sword?

Definitely. Tessaiga is about 50" long on the blade. It just takes a heck of a lot of patience and even more sanding ^^
