To All Seras Victoria Cosplayers w/Finished Costumes

What material have you used to make your uniform? I did a search on the forums for possible material choices, but those who suggested the materials havent made the costume (or completed it enough for pictures) yet.

I made a list of the suggested fabrics as well. Have you used these? :

Egyptian Twill
Strech Cotton Twill
Cotton
Broad Cloth
Heavy poly Cotton blend
Suiting Material
Linen
Faux Linen

I'm looking for something that'll give me a crisp, uniformish profesional look when I finish with it. I'd like the costume to breath, , and be some what form fitting. However, I dont want to use any stretch material, vynil, or denim, or pleather-I'm basically looking for something that would be a good representation from the anime to true to life standards.

I included a reference image for those not familier with the character, but could possibly help with Material suggestions.

Please note that I'm only asking for suggestions, not patterns, where I can get it comissioned, or where can look to find pieces to alter.

If you have images of your seras cosplay, along with your material choice, THAT'D be a great help as well.

~Diana

Hey there! I'm an avid Seras Cosplayer, so I thought I'd help you out babe.
<3

I used Broadcloth for my yellow uniform, and it came out really nice looking. Very clean, very professional looking, I definitely recommend it! I have pictures of it in my gallery under the Seras Victoria OVA album. <3

Thanks for responding ^_^

Your yellow uniform looks great though, but it isnt quite the look I'm hunting for. Did you use broad cloth for your red uniform too?

well I love Seras, and have stated many a time that I plan on naming my first daughter Seras Victoria, that being said I would love to help out! I searched this site for Seras costumes, and on some pages the cosplayer will name the cloth type used, and other than an un-named slightly stretchy fabric, cotton or twill seem to be the general consensus as show in the following
COTTON:

http://www.cosplay.com/costume/75150/
TWILL:

I personally like the cotton, feel free to ask anything of meh. ^___^ good luck!

I used a stretch twill for mine. With pressing and some starch, it works really well for Seras in two areas--it's a good weight and looks more crisp, and it fits well in certain ...areas... that a non-stretch fabric can't really handle without a whole lot of darts. I'd need to pull out my costume to check, but I think the only darts I used were hidden in the lower pleats on the top; that was more to account for my waist than anything else.

I wasn't able to iron it before I wore it, so it's not as crisp as it could be. Really, ironing is the key to being crisp (word of advice from an army brat)

For my OVA Seras I used Stretch Poplin.

Twill is god tier for uniforms. I think the exact fabric was called rodeo poplin and came in this beautiful yellow.

I suggest twill for any uniforms.

I would love to know this as well. I'm currently making the costume myself. I'm having the same "material" problem that you are! I have felt for the badges for the breast and the arm and I'll be making the neck piece seperate and add it on with velcro or something I havent quite figured it out yet.

I used Velcro for the front collar piece on mine, the collaritself is hand sewn on and the badges are ironed on =)

i am not a Seras cosplayer myself but merely a fan

poly cotton is what is currently used for most military uniforms so something of that weight or a little heavier Should look Correct
i would say go for the heaviest material you could get away with Twill would probably Work Nice...

Also not a Seras cosplayer, but my suggestion for most things uniform-y is trigger poplin. It's sturdy, machine washable, comes in lots of colours, and holds pleats well.

Sewing commissions are on hold, but I still do custom pattern-drafting. PM for details.

Yes! I used a Sports Twill and it did work out wonderfully! I love it! I have a few pics up of my cosplay from Anime Iowa 2010.

My friend at the moment is making my gun for me and then a few alterations to make and it will be done!

Things to have done to it still:
~Shoe lace covers
~Belt loops
~Words on patches
~New gloves (those leather ones were a pain in the but)
