What did you think of Anime North?
What was your overall impression of the con, and the hotel and stuff?
Overall, I think the con was great. Somewhat confusing, but great ^^'. The hotel however...Well...It was awful. Our room had discoloured carpet(It was blue...In most places...And yellowish in a few random splotty places. My dad says someone likely puked there Xx.), uberly hard beds, a awful looking bathroom, and was completely crummy. I wrote 'Baka hotel' on the comments card. -Coughs-. I wasn't impressed at all. The Con was good though. Minus the confusion that it seemed I wasn't the only person going through. It took me 15 minutes just to figure out which line was for the Registration. - -'. Then, I couldn't find where you had to go to get in line to watch the Masquerade at. I think they probably should have had signs..or something. I think YTV kind of destroyed the Con at some points. People were following the camera around too. The map thing they gave out was hard to read. Then again, I can't read maps at all, so yeah XD. Some of the dealer's tables were confusing too, especially the one that had the prices in US dollars. I may be an American, and I may have been paying with US money, but I prefer to see things in Canadian prices, then ask for the US. I ran out of US money and was using Canadian for most of the Con, so seeing stuff in US messed me up x.x. For me though, the Gundam Wing VAs panel thing and the Masquerade were worth the whole con. That GW VA panel was hilarious. And the Masquerade was amusing. That MC was different though. I wonder if he really was some random guy they just told to do the job and he'd get pocky for it. And I wonder why everyone always says they watched Scooby Doo when they were a kid oO. The Dealer's Room was okay, but I would have liked to see more CDs there. There was only a couple tables with CDs, and the selection wasn't too great. There wasn't many varieties of pocky there either. And some of the aisles were a bit to narrow. It didn't get uberly warm in there though, and they had a table for water and stuff, so I have to give them points on that. The cosplayers were pretty good too. There was a wide variety of costumes, from a bunch of different series ^^. -Was Kouichi Kimura....Erm...Was the Kouichi Kimura cosplayer who had glasses o.o'-. I still say that the Masquerade and the GW VA's were the best parts of the Con, and, that the hotel sucked. Sure, it looked great from the Lobby and Con-area, but the rooms were junk. We didn't give the room a very good rating at all. Overall, I'd say that AN was a pretty good Con, and that I'd go to it again every year I can...Despite the fact I live in Ohio and have parents who dislike driving for a loong time Xx. Sooo, what did you think of the Con? |

I thought An was pretty good, and luckily i didnt have to stay in the hotel *phew*
I agree with the map being a lttle confusing... it took me over 10 minutes to try and figure out which direction the salon rooms were (finally i realized i had to go up, lol) The MC at the masquerade was umm... bad, lol i cant manage saying anything nicer, he must have failed school because he could not read more than 2 words per minute, hahaha, it was pretty bad, but overall the masquerade was really good, i have to say i loved the giant pocky box!!!! That was great, if anyone got a picture of him/her pleeeaaaassseeeee post it ![]() ![]() |

You do realize he was reading peoples' hand writing. He mentioned at least 10 times that people needed to learn to write. X.X And it looked like he was nervous and getting rather annoyed. I would have too. (What part of "no flash photography" don't people understand? T_T)
I thought he was funny and I know I'm going be the ONLY one who thinks that. -_- But it seems that every year peope complain about the MC and yet they don't volunteer themselves. Hmm..remembering the comments I read about last years MC(s) it seems that peopel will never be happy with the MCs. But the MC was NOT the point of the masquerade. >_< I though AN was really fun. ^____^ a LOT better than last year. The registration line-up was really confusing and yet again we (my group) failed to get a straight answer when asking about con locations. (like the masq line-up. -_-) Last edited by Mekou : 05-18-2003 at 07:57 PM. |

Re: What did you think of Anime North?
The highlight for me would be the GW VA panel. That was hilarious. That and the signing on Friday when David Kaye came up behind me in the line and picked me up because I was shorter then everyone who I was with 'trying to make me feel tall' o_O aparently I weigh 2 oz to him XD;;. and when Brian Drummond kissed me on the cheek. =^_^= and the fact that Scott McNeil was playing with the feathers on my Rikku costume for a while.
Then when the staff found a Crossplayer wearing a red wig, because Kirby Morrow wanted a red head. XD I emiditly starting jumping saying that I might be dying my hair red. Kirby just.. laughed though. The masqerade was okay, I missed more then half of it. We went out for dinner around 7, thinking that we would have lots of time, service was really slow at Mr. Greeks. @_@ We wern't out untill 8:30, by the time we got back, we had already missed everyone's FFX-2. But, atleast we saw the Yaoi flavored Pocky >:3 yumm. I'd like to have that flavor. Everyone that I saw from Cosplay.com had awsome costumes. @_@ my belt and pouch kept on falling off, so I couldn't wear them then on Saturday night the circle thing on the back of Rikku's ribbons fell off because my friend was playing with it. Not having enough time to fix it, so I went out-of-costume today (Sunday). YTV was somewhat annoying. They asked me to go on in the morning for 'a little bit' which ended up being almost 2 hours. (More then 2 hours for Chobrat I think. You poor thing ;_;.) But atleast Chobrat was there to talk to and made it seem shorter. To bad we didn't get to get pictures though. Not only that but when I was in the dealers room meating up with Katie, then ended up making us do an interveiw with them as to why we where there. God, that DJ was so short. I didn't stay at the hotel, scince I only live 20 mintues away. MC was slightly annoying after awhile. He was funny for a bit. But then it just got.. agrivating. And yes, the map had me too confused. @_@ I had to ask everyone where I was going. |

I agree with you DMG, the hotel was awful, the bathrooms looked bad and small and the beds were hard and lumpy.
My highlights would have to be the GW panel. *anyone see a trend developing here* anyway it was hilarious! that and everyone got to see my painting of Treize i drew! that was so cool everyone oooed and awwwed when they saw it. then i had to go up there while David signed it. man i wish i had brought a cam corder! and your right Ryukka Brad was adorable.

Hello all,
Just a newbie on this forum checking out who's who and all that's wonderful about you ppl. I thnk Anime North is great not because of the events or location but because of the ppl who run it and attend. I've been to all the TO cons from day one and have helped out one way or another in all of them. AN in my opinion is a fan's con and thus gives its appeal as such. Sooooo....in other words all you guys, gals and cosplayers rock! Oh, I am a friend of the Yaoi-pocky...and under that great packaging is a smooth, tall, yaoi boy ready to satisfy your hunger. I'm sure he won't mine getting fan mail. Let me know and I'll direct you to Glico's newest sensation. |

After going to CNanime since day one, this was my first time at AN.
Pre-Reg was smooth and simple... I was an early bird so I got at the hotel at 11:30am on Friday and sat in the lobby until 1:30... pre-reg started early and 15mins later I had my badge and everything. The dealers Room... was medicore. I bought a box of Pockey... and that was it. It wasn't really good (a few more tables could have been used) but I have seen alot worse. The Masq was pretty entertaining, but thats usually because of the crowd. The MC was a first timer, so mistakes were bound to happen... and pronouncation isn't going to be perfect with people scribbling down their names. It was a good crowd, outside the people who decided to yell DURING the performances causing the cosplayers to stop their performance for the crowd to calm down and then continue (which in turn causes them to go over the 1min time and be cut off). Plus the people who couldn't understand what NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY ment.. someone behind me thought it was smart to yell out 'then turn of the lights'. Anyways all the costumes where well done and their were some excellent performances... From the crowd my section's usually antics were in full force with out 'Ninja Rap Chant'.... 'Gordie chants' (For Gordon Rose), Usual rowdiness that IMO helps the masq atmosphere. Anyways I didn't get to meet any guests or go to any of the GOH stuff because Dani and his kick ass Para para Workshop was soo damn cool. Plus I got to be a backup dancer for when Dani and Dave were teaching YTV's Carlos (I want PJ Phil back) how to do 'BOOM BOOM FIRE'. My Utena panel was good, but mostly due to the kick ass audience who where extremely knowledgable on the philosphy of Utena... I was on the panel, but the audience was the one who gave the boat load of info! The video game tourneys were pretty cool... in Marvel Vs Capcom 2... I made it to the semis before being squashed baddly... and I wasn't able to enter then ChoChoboRacing (no clue how to spell it) due to a large amount of participants... although I did get to play it in the end But the main focus of the weekend was the Battle Royale Comp... which is one of the main reasons I went... and I'm happy to say I performed well... and was able to nabb second place! I suggest to anyone who is thinking about it.. join it next year. Anyways AN was wonderful... and I will be back next year.

Had a good time overall. Yeah, the hotel part of the centre is falling apart; there's word of some new hotel/con-centre in the construction works that might become the eventual home of AN. Plus the Regal changed management hands so things were a little different this time. Plus, a bigger centre means less having to put the con in two different areas (the ballrooms versus the salons).
The masq was well-run, and amazingly enough was under three hours; the video feed from the waiting room was bad, but better than none at all. The MC did a good first job, and yeah, the forms were unreadable in places, and he really did feel badly when he couldn't read it, but it really wasn't his fault. I was a stage catcher ninja (the one next to the exit side of the stage) and saw a bit of them beforehand and they were illegible. I think he got the crowd on side toward the end, but a few people in the audience were stupidly harsh. Yeah, no flash photography sucks but it's for safety. That, and unless you're in the first few rows anyway you're likely to get squat on your pics anyway. There is a receiving row for photographers outside if you want costume pics, otherwise it's really not worth the bother and the hassle of irking the staff. Anyway, I'll save more ranting for my site, and there are pics from the con already up there, plus more assorted rambling. sour_milk: I got some good Yaoi Pocky pics, including one (sorta) unmasked. They'll be up sooner or later...

i love regal. minus the fact that the layout is completely retarded and u need to walk like 10mins (30+ if ur in costume!) from the main lobby to the dealer's room/conference area LOL! but i guess it was alrite my first year as staff, so that was fun^_^ wht else.. FFX-2 kicked ass^0^ hard work paid off ^_____^ i only spent $19.50 <--no jokes LOOOL i got to spend all weekend with a certain sexay seifer *coughhack* HAHA^_^ i...dunt really care about VA's and guests, so i cant coment about that. And we were entry #8 of 86 in the masquerade, so i wouldnt know how long the wait was LOL X_X; o! and i loved how we had the last minute ginormous Squaresoft team LOL^_^ ~heki

I'm still sleepy.
But I had a blast as usual. Met up with my friends from out of province, won some awards in the Masq. (still kind of boggling over that...) didn't spend too much money, made a girl cry--unfortunatly not someone from YTV. Maybe Next year-- did four panels, hijacked two of them, and was generally disgustingly cute. As for the hotel... bah. Bathrooms are for peeing and showering in, and carpets are to walk on. The MC was great. It was his first year, because Gord doesn't want to do it anymore. He's not some random guy as whoever suggested it. They should have given him a bio, but it wasn't his show. It was a show for the costumes. He'll learn how to control the crowd in time, and Hell, *I* can't even pronounce half the anime crap out there, so it isn't as if he should be expected to when he can't even READ the messy writing people give to him. He's quite likely someone who will/would be a guest at some point. Especially after some people's reactions to him. I know for Me, I plan on making it tradition to Hug him, because he was kind of cute. Anime North has the Toughest Audience in NORTH AMERICA according to some of the backstage crew, so think about that... people have to give them some more credit. |

KISA! *GLOMP!!!!!*
...okay, i'm happy again...despite the load of homework i have to do today...not to mention studying...even though i'm so fatigued i might as well have a hangover...^_^ i'm too tired to think anything of AN right now. ^_^ But the photoshoots were messed, as usual...lol...it's a con tradition, i'm sure...we did get a big massive random shoot, though...so it's good that i ended up waiting several hours for the ccml/cosplay.com shoots to happen...eh heh....but the lobby was very hot...first the stupid leaks in the glass ceiling dripped on me and almost gave me the magical ability to do the splits on Friday...then they superheat the lobby on Saturday....x_x; deathly... I didn't get to talk to Gord. T_T *sniff* *disappointed* |

I got my Traditional Gord-Hug and chatted with him about this year's Masq. and upcoming Toronto trek.
He was happy with it, except for some of the idiots. I'll miss him, but I think the new MC will do well, once he gets some lessons in crowd control. Mage, I'm glad you came to say Hello this year Your costumes were amazing and it was good to meet you in person.Dan, I'm disapointed. Not one "magnum" joke from you this year! |
