Ash Ketchum.

Okay...
where do I even BEGIN WITH THIS? XD

while to most it probably seems like an easy costume to make, I'm a complete cosplay NOOB and have no idea how to go about with his stupid overshirt-thing. (I'm doing Ash from the Kanto series.)

e..to.. there is actually a cosplay newbie section

http://forums.cosplay.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45

I recommend you post it there next time

But.. I won't be completely merciless .. I can help you although I am not sure if what I say isn't anything new, This could be a troll for all I know.. I mean, C'mon, how much easier can it get?

step 1. Go buy some jeans that fit.
step 2. Buy a black shirt.
Step 3. Buy a belt.
step 4. Buy some red sneakers.
Step 5. Buy some green gloves ( Or make them )
Step 6. Buy a jacket ( or sew one from a pattern, just alter it, but I take it that you don't know how to sew )
Step 7. Buy a hat similar, and alter it.

You can buy jeans and shirts and stuff at Meijer, Walmart, K-marts, JCPennys, Target, and ..generally all clothing stores.

The only thing you might need to make is
Jacket. Hat. Gloves. and a Pikachu.. but you can even buy one of those.

Here are some tips for a new cosplayer, which you've already done some of them.

Step 1. Find a costume (X)
Step 2. Find Reference Pictures (X)
Step 3. Set a Budget ( )
Step 4. Set a schedual ( ) *For super easy costumes like this, the con date is fine
Step 5. Make a list of what you need. ( )
Step 6. Go buy Everything that's pre-made ( )
Step 7. Use references to match colors for Materials you need ( )
Step 8. Construct your materials ( )
Step 9. Try on your costume and trouble shoot ( )
-Step10. *Fix your mistakes ( )

For the over shirt I used McCalls's stitch 'n save M4809, with slight modifications on the collar, and added trim and things. It was a pretty simple and easy pattern. Then we just used a black shirt and jeans we already had, and found an old baseball cap and painted it.

Turned out like this:

My friend in the pic btw, not me. I just made it for him ;P

That actually looks like it turned out awesome! I'll definitely look into that pattern - thanks a bunch!

EDIT: checked all throughout the McCall's website and couldn't find the pattern. :/ Would you suggest Ebay?

The pattern I used was actually for a female shirt (it was one I already had so I didn't want to buy something new, even though it was a guy's shirt), so maybe that's why you couldn't find it if you were looking under male patterns?

... that or I got the name of it wrong... >_>;; I'll check into it later.

I'm planning on doing this character too! What do you guys think about buying the hat? I know I can buy Ash's cap online. I see it on Ebay for $10.
