Gurren Lagann: Kamina's Sunglasses

Ok At first I've searched Ebay to find the pointy retro sunglasses that Kamina wears So far I failed, and I was wondering first, if there's a certain name of these style of sunglasses, second, if I have to make them, what would be the best way?

Hey man I am with ya on this I got some ways which I was thinking abut doing them.

Here goes two options I will let you know how they come out:

Find Orange Transperancy paper and cut out the design.

Find some regular transperancy paper and print out the design and cut it out and that should work. Thats what I plan on doing. I hope this helps.

one word: acrylic

i went to an acrylic shop and they made them for me. i just made a working cardboard mock-up.

in case that you want to build the yourself, buy acrylic (or sintra), get an special exacto knife, which cuts plastics (i have seen that knife on craft shops, the brand is Olfa), use a metallic ruler to guide you on your work.

for bending, use a little bit of heat and pliers.

as for the glue you can use, instant glue that contains cyanocrylate bonds acrylic.

just take your cardboard mock-up to the store and ask them if they can make the same thing on acrylic... pick your colors and that's about it.

in case they can't make them, you can always buy a piece of acrylic or sintra and make them yourself.

actually if you go into a party city youll find these sunglasses.

In miami there are at least 30 pair in every store because they cant give them away down here.

Try them first, hope this helps.

Ok, these all are great for Kamina's sunglasses, but now I was wondering....How well would this work for say....Simon's Starglasses?

well, i have been looking at some pics of the latest episodes... simon starglasses aren't flat, they look faceted...

so first, you'll have to build a starglasses maquette out of cardboard, use some thick cardboard to emulate the thickness of the acrylic. i'm thinking that you'll have to cut in an certain angle to get results (45 degrees??)

of course they're more difficult to build, so try out on cardboard before working on plastic

Where would you find an acrylic shop? They dont seem to be anything common at all, nor sintra material. I've looked around for both and I cant find much of either. I live in Ontario if anyone knows of a place near by.

transparent see thru plastic folders in the right colors for like 20 cents each

you can go to loew's or home depot, grab a scrap of plexiglass and carve the shape with an xactoknife then pop it out?

perhaps some glass tint would color it.
