Simplicity 1300

So yesterday I bought Simplicity's "gothic lolita" costume pattern ($1 sale woohoo). I know it has some issues (such as being too short), but has anyone made something workable out of it?

I was thinking of making just the pink part of the right one as a jacket/coat to wear over skirt & blouse outfits. I'm not sure if that's okay though, I'm just starting to try to get into the fashion and I don't want to do something illegitimate!

I think the neckline should be higher on both of those. You aren't suppose to see cleavage and while you still can't that much, it's awful low. Unless the pink one is a jsk that you wear a blouse under. Also the black one is too short a skirt for the fashion. Te General rule is about knee length. The pink one looks better there. That's about it though other than they are a little overly frilly but idk how much is too much, it's hard to tell

I agree with the the cleavage thing I think the one on the left looks kind of costumey If you're unsure about what you're doing you could look for pictures of the fashion I just got into it too but I only wore it at a convention

Yeah they are definitely too low on top too, that's part of why I'd like to make it more like a jacket that I can wear over a blouse and skirt. I haven't found any examples of jackets that are open in the front like that though, so I'm not sure if that's an acceptable style. This is the closest thing I've seen.

The outfit I'm trying to plan right now is this skirt (probably going to add a ruffle to the bottom since it looks short) + a top somewhat similar to this + kneesocks, accesories, etc. It'd be nice to have a coat for winter, but still have my cute skirt showing. Plan B would be to just make a capelet, I think.

Oh sorry, that's weird I'll have to upload it. Also, your coord is really cute

Here's the skirt I'm planning to get, I think it would be sweet style? (I like sweet motifs but I don't want to go too over the top, and I like the soft colors in this one) I'm getting the purple/pink color one. And this is what I was thinking of doing for a coat. I think I'll get a clock bag like this too to continue the theme.

Classic style has always been the one I wasn't quite sure what defined it. Beside maybe floral prints?
But I researched it a bit more and I think I really like that aesthetic A lot of the things I've been drawn to that I thought were either gothic or sweet are actually classic, who knew? (Well, probably everyone but me)
When I googled "classic lolita" I even found a picture of a girl wearing the skirt I want to buy! So maybe that is the more appropriate category for it, haha.

ETA: What kind of fabric would be good for a jacket or capelet? Unfortunately I can't really wear wool (I'm allergic) and I'm not sure what alternatives would be formal-looking enough. Maybe velvet?
