I'm also going to be the Medic
. I'm nuts for the art direction in TF2 and started thinking of costumes for the spy, medic, or engineer. I settled on medic because I am crap at playing the other 2 classes in-game.
I'm going as the RED medic, so found some WWII repro breeches in the right color, some tall black jump boots, and a lab coat as the base outfit.
I'm a stickler for detail, so I'll probably make my own coat after Halloween, since the in-game model wears the more anachronistic "mad scientist" style coat with the side buttons on the chest, plus it's extra long and is cut away at the waist. Likewise, I'll probably go cheap for the patches on the shoulders the first time around.
The backpack will be fabricated from a box, a 2-liter bottle, and whatever I can find at the hardware store. I'll look for a frame, a belt, and the ammo bags at the army/navy surplus store to hook it all up. I may make a bonesaw, as I'm rather fond of tearing up spies with it, plus I enjoy the in-game taunt.
Shirt, tie, glasses, no problem. Red rubber gloves are proving to be a bit of a pain to find, though I have a backup on the internet if I can't find anything locally.
I am going to try to make a somewhat flashy medi-gun. At Target, I found a portable spotlight by Durabuilt that has a handle on top and a pistol grip on the bottom. With some pvc pipe, tubing, and a red filter over the lens, I'll be able to make it look relatively good, plus flash red! If I have time, I'll try to fabricate some sort of streamer (with a hook on the end for attaching to other people) for the health beam.
If I take it to MegaCon, I might bring along some of "+
" speech bubbles for friends to pose with.
Because, you know, I don't see them enough in-game.
