Registration

Does anybody know why pre-registration is taking so long on the website? It seems a bit odd that people have already had the chance to register at Another Anime Convention but nobody can online yet. That November 11th is approaching pretty fast.

There is a good reason for the delay, and it is not something I will elaborate on here. Knowing the Exec Staff involved in this situation, I know that it is too complex to bring up in a public forum, but it IS progressing.

Registering in person at a convention or other event is MUCH different than programming a registration database and programming that will accept credit cards etc. over the internet. In order to accomodate for the delay in Registration, Anime Boston will be doing more in-person pre-reg events (ToykoKid especially.)

For the in-person pre-reg schedule, please see here:

(And yes, that is a photo of Mary, our wonderful Exec. Director of Operations. Without her, Anime Boston would not have a 'home' in the Hynes or a hotel...)

AB prereg

It is odd. They had prereg online for last year in August.
All they had to do was change the dates on the form, right?

Thankfully, they are having in-person prereg events.
Next one is this Saturday at Tokyo Kid from 2-5.

For the others:

Yeah, if they wanted to do it half-assed. The whole system's being improved from the ground up in order to make it faster and easier for attendees and for staff behind the scenes.

Be patient, okay? It's not like you can't ever pre-register...you'll just have to do it a bit later than normal. (They've already said that the rates won't increase before the online pre-registration is available.)

I really can't understand why people are having such a fit over it.

By the way, let me tell you that nothing annoys Registration staff more than people asking when it will be up. They may not show it, but when they're annoyed, they're not exactly motivated to work on the system. Just let them do their work in peace, okay?

Lol calm down. I'm not having a fit over anything, it's just hard on my end because we have a group of between 8 and 12 going this year, most of which have never been, and I just need to be able to tell them what's up. It's also difficult communicating with them to say when we're gonna need their money by to put them on a group registration form when the time comes.

Besides, it may be a pain for the staff getting so many emails questioning it, but at least it lets them know how much everybody loves the con, which I would think would be some manner of a morale boost in making the con happen. At least I did it the painless way by asking in these forums, and I wasn't directly asking anime boston staff, but I am grateful for LadyHawke78's response.

Thank you!

I'm not saying this to anyone directly. First of all.

But from what I've been reading on the AB forums and on here. I've never seen so many people complain about cons stuff in my life.

There's the registration thing, which obviosuly the staff knows its not up. They're the ones working on it. And they're probably just as stressed as the con attendees since AB is aproaching rather quickly.

And also the Hotel. It was switched over to the Marriot this year, and all I see is people complaining that they need to walk to the convention center now. It's all inclosed! They must not go to any other cons. Most other ones you don't get hotels connected to the convention center. Otakon, your lucky if you get a hotel a block away.

Sorry for the rant, but I don't understand why some people will complain.
I ran a festival at my school and in Northhampton and that was stressful enough, so I can imagine what they're going through.

(pyrodynamics, this isn't towards you. I thought I should mention that before you got angry. ^^

Hey, if this is all people have to complain about, that's pretty damn good.

The new registration system is currently in the testing phase and being hammered by staff. ...so it's very close to going live. Just a little more patience.

Yeah and I was glad to see that the date got pushed up a week. A friend of mine was getting frantice because the registration date was drawing near and didn't want to pay an extra $5.

Hehe, I'm not the angry type. I guess I misrepresented myself with the first post cuz I really wasn't complaining at all, I was just wondering why. I have antsy friends and I gotta be able to tell them something about why, you know? We're having our first meeting about it tomorrow so I'll just let them know it's in testing phases and near completion.

Thanks to everyone who helped me

Actually Registration is close. VERY close.

It's so close I can taste it.
(And, oddly, it tastes sort of like bacon...)

the only thing I am worried about is it not being up in time and then the only way to regester will be at some con or something I can't attend. So I think that is something others are worring about as well. I know I am, because that is just my luck >.>

but I incourage the staff to please do there best. We all just love the con so much and we are rooting for you! GANBATTE!

Well, you certainly will not need to worry about that. There WILL be online prereg this year, and the rate increase schedule will be pro-rated to accomodate for the delay, which means that you will still have time to register at the lower rates.
